Mormon testifies against prop 8, refuses to stop, mic is cut.

It sounds like he also announced that he was removing his name from the records of the Church.

Someone posted this a few weeks ago. iirc, it didn't get much play. I guess we'll see if there are any takers this time around.

        Yawn.

The same thing would have happened if he went to a City Council Meeting and testified of the veracity of the Book of Mormon.

That is an awkward moment right there. We certainly are not used to dissension in our meetings, that is for sure.

On a positive note, looks like they opened the meeting with "For the Beauty of the Earth," which is a pretty solid tune.

That's pretty pathetic. He had someone film it.

                Huh?

Are you changing the subject to the Church's stance on Prop 8 or are we still talking about the guy who pretended to be sharing a testimony while having his friend record it so he could post it online to cast the Church in a negative light?

I think he is doing what you are doing....obfuscating.

For example, you are ignoring the content of the clip by focusing on the clandestine nature of the film.

That is might cast the Church in a negative light should have little bearing on what is taking place in the video.

                    Why?

The intent and achievement of attention mongering doesn't matter?

Come on. The fact that it was a choreographed publicity stunt cheapens the whole thing.

Making it as public as possible is always a good way to make sure your actions appear to be as altruistic as possible rather than being some grudge-holding publicity hound.

Well, as an example of the statement....

The Rodney King video was similarly clandestine in that it cast the police in a negative light, it was released in some part for notoriety and financial gain, and it totally ignored the fact that King had been pursued for awhile prior to being pulled over. Kind later admitted that he refused to pull over because he knew it would violate his parole. He was found to be more than twice over the legal limit. The chase allegedly endangered many lives.

George Holliday has continued to benefit from the release of the video, even to this day.

None of this really negates what we see in the video. It is what it is.

This is the same principle on a non-violent and much more localized level. What is the relevance of the video being secret? The point of the video is to show what is taking place at the pulpit.

I think the only take-away for me from watching this video is the jolt of reality that we definitely do NOT welcome dissenting opinions at Church. The Church's stance on Prop 8 is no shock and this guy is not really saying anything that everyone doesn't already know. The Church has not made secret its stance, so there is no smoking gun to be found in the video clip. I think that pretty much any church would have done the same had someone stood up to say things contrary to the beliefs of the host, so this isn't unique to the LDS Church.

Everything was very peaceful. The guy was peaceful in his words and he seemed sincere. The Bishop was peaceful and didn't go bananas. That they cut the mic was kind of interesting.
