As reported previously, I'm on Jon MacNaughton's (excuse me, "MacNaughton Fine Art's") mailing list so I get to see his latest masterpieces as they roll off the easel. I enjoy them the way I enjoy the Jerry of the Day Instagram page, as each crash is always funny and no one gets hurt. But his latest work demonstrates the absence of both skill and intelligence. Without further ado:

I drew Vladimir Putin in my sketchbook with his recent quote regarding the Ukrainian War. I am studying both sides of this conflict and its complicated. I hope you like it.

What is complicated about invading a sovereign country and bombing hospitals and other civilian sites? Well, at least he has Russia, Belarus, and Eritrea on his side. When I first saw the drawing I was hoping it was going to be derisive, as his cross-eyed Putin reminded me of Mel Brooks' Governor LePetomane in Blazing Saddles. Sadly, McNaughton is deadly serious. And dumb.

I'm starting to wonder if these expressions on the right in support of Russia/Puten are part of larger effort to steer the conversation to justify/validate Trump's "Puten is a genius" commentary. That horrible kid in the wheelchair in N Carolina, Tucker on Fox, and this. I wonder if we won't see more of this as time passes. The big question is how much of this is be orchestrated out of Mar a Lago.
