  • Great 1st Dinner Dates

I'm curious where are some places in Utah that you think are great 1st date dinner spots? Or even romantic dinner dates? Fun dinner dates? All of the above.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from our CUF-ettes.

I mentioned Bombay House in the previous Ottavio's thread as being a really good one.

I just hit up the Roma Ristorante at 9th E 5600 S the other night. It's in that old lot where Albertson's used to be before they moved to the lot to the south. I was worried all the way up until I actually entered the restaurant.

There really are some great establishments in that little corner that are bound to die off soon if they can't start getting some traffic to come that way. Amazing to see that place starve while locations literally across the street are thriving.

One of my favorites used to be the Restorante Della Fontana in Salt Lake, near 3rd East and 3rd South. It was converted from an old church with an indoor waterfall and stained glass windows. Now it's a sushi place. I liked going there because it was a six course meal served one at a time, and took 90-120 minutes which gave us a lot of time to talk. I miss it. Does anyone know of similar places that serve a long meal in a comfortable setting? I like the patios at Tuscany and Ruth's Diner but we're usually rushed in and out in 30-45 minutes.

I ate there for lunch once last year when I worked over near 4500 South and 700 East and really enjoyed it.

        Good call.

I second the Bombay House recomendation. Nice atmosphere without being overly romantic, and if your date doesn't like Indian food you've dodged a bullet and can cut your losses before things go too far.

Cedars of Lebanon (I know some don't like it much) is rather fun when they have the belly dancing going on.

Cafe Molise is a nice setting if you eat outdoors. The food is decent but it is a nice comfortable setting after 7pm.

The Himalayan Kitchen is my favorite Indian style restaurant in the valley. It is a cozy setting, though they are moving around the corner and may already be in (on 4th south and state street)

Ruth's Diner up Emigration Canyon is a fabulous setting as well.

Pretty much all of my diiner dates involved a campfire and a dutch oven, so I'm not sure I can be much help. Part of me says to take her to diegos ... If she agrees to a second date then she's a keeper.

I'm not very well versed in Utah restaurants, but one year my wife and I went to The Tree Room up at Sundance. It's far from inexpensive, but the food was excellent, and if you go in the spring, summer, or early fall you can take some excellent walks or even take the lift up to the top. The scenery is great and the food is excellent.

Yes. I recommend the peppercorn-crusted fillet with mango chutney. Or the grilled salmon.

Roma Ristorante is actually quite good. I was surprised when I tried it.

If I get the job I applied for, I'll heed any advice that might come this way.

I agree with this line of thinking. Going out of your way to super-impress your date just means you're keeping the gold-diggers. If you want to marry someone down-to-earth, take them somewhere less pretentious and see what happens.

Roma Ristorante has an amuse bouche to die for.

I was just next door at Bellissima Gelato last night ( I had half guava and half mascarpone ) and if they shut down due to lack of clientele I will just die. They have the best gelato in the state.

I agree about the gelato at Bellissima. Very, very good.

I'm disappointed you were so close to my home but didn't stop by and say hello.
