I didn't think Dishoom was too touristy, maybe a little too hipster though. It's jam-packed at all locations, usually a 1 or 1.5 hour wait regardless of the time you go. The food was good.

Not a vacation, but a business trip. I'll be in Charlotte next weekend. I love the much aligned vineagar based BBQ style there and was curious to see if anyone close by has recommendations. I'm told we are close to the Second Ward district.Comment

Charlotte doesn't really have anything to compare to Lexington, and Uptown doesn't really have any real good bbq places these days, but there are a couple of good options nearby.
The one that tends to get the most buzz is Noble Smoke, a couple of miles northwest of downtown. The other is Midwood Smokehouse. It is a mile or two just outside of uptown to the east, so an easy Uber or drive (I wouldn't walk it, even if you are a walker). Midwood is my goto place, as there is a location near me and it is always solid, if not spectacular.
If you want something within walking distance, you are probably out of luck for BBQ, but there are a lot of good restaurants uptown. I'd be happy to give a few suggestions if wanted.
