Decent gravy....as in, I am trying my best to make the turkey not taste like a turkey. As for brine...it helps on the margin, but you still end up with an inferior product.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postit's not turkey's fault you don't know how to brine and make a decent gravy

Deli meat, yeah, whiffed on that one. Throwing that in I'd say outside of Thanksgiving I probably eat turkey maybe another 3-4 times a year. But I still don't see it as a very highly rated meat. It's not like you go to a restaurant and they have some turkey preparation. How many meats would you rate before it?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post
stop being a dunce. it is probably the most popular deli meat year-round.

I did fail to note, that turkey on a sandwich is fine as a deli meat because in comparison to other deli meats it works. However, I am talking about a meat that is featured as a whole meal.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Post

So I guess you never put any sauce on any piece of meat, any potato, any vegetable, anything. No frosting on your cookies, you're just trying make that nasty cookie taste like a cookie!Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostDecent gravy....as in, I am trying my best to make the turkey not taste like a turkey. gravy using a packet that tastes like something other than turkey is not decent gravy. real gravy, made with gizzards, backbone and other trimmings tastes like turkey and is delicious.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostDecent gravy....as in, I am trying my best to make the turkey not taste like a turkey. This is my main point. On the day where we give thanks and celebrate out bounty, why do we partake of one of the worst meats as a feature of the meal? I don't hate turkey, but it is inferior to so many other meats.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostDeli meat, yeah, whiffed on that one. If you want to talk strict overall ratings, no problem. I will happily join alongside of you and fight the good fight. Turkey isnt beating out prib or tip or brisket, for example. But that is a categorically different argument than claiming that turkey isn't delish. Regardless of ranking among the divinity of meats, turkey is still fab, while turkey with fresh cranberry sauce and tasty gravy is ab-fab.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostDeli meat, yeah, whiffed on that one. Good gravy is delicious on pretty much anything. I love gravy. But when I am eating turkey with gravy it isn't really enhancing the turkey it is just the gravy that is good.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postgravy using a packet that tastes like something other than turkey is not decent gravy. real gravy, made with gizzards, backbone and other trimmings tastes like turkey and is delicious.
