Of course, any fact told 3rd person will be met with some amount of dubiousness.

I'm not implying that being closed Sunday's is the reason, just that they do very well despite the one day handicap.

The Centerville DQ is a huge tradition for a place to grab a meal or treat for large mormon families or contingencies:
    For FHE
    After a baseball/tee ball/soccer game
After a Young Mens/Young Womens activity
After Priesthood, Young Womens, or Relief Society general sessions
    Population Centerville: 15,000
    Population Irvine: 200,000
    Population Atlanta: 450,000
    Population Dallas: 1,300,000

And centerville is doing it with one hand tied behind its back, closed on Sunday.

like I said, I love those stories. They are usually very hilarious. And always, without exception, shared with the very specific purpose of implying that being closed on Sunday plays a role in the economic success

My mom lives in centerville and that DQ is always packed. It's amazing. It might not be the highest grossing in the country but I'll bet it does surprisingly well given it is o my open 6 of 7 days a week.

There is a DQ in a suburb of montreal (near NDG) that is closed from late October until march. Or at least it was in the late 70s.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Yeah, I guess their faith just isn't that strong

Centerville and Bountiful have a few of these types of establishments. Dick's Market has never sold beer or opened on Sundays. These are actually good examples of knowing your clientel. They know that 80% of the surrounding population will admire and be loyal to them for upholding the community values.

There is a DQ in Denver that was closed during the winter months, I always thought it was odd.

My high school girlfriend and I went to the Centerville DQ fairly often after an awkward but enthusiastic makeout session. It always seemed busy. Based on her facebook pictures, she still goes there quite often.

I don't disagree with you but the story doesn't promote as much faith if you say "the DQ does surprisingly well." it is much more inspirational to say, "it is the top selling DQ in the country." Faith promotion increases exponentially when you close the store for a day.

Reminds me of this story about a guy that is about to call down fire to burn some dead animals but at the last second he decides to up the wow factor by dousing the carcass with water.

The story is a lose/lose. Either it is false (most likely) or it is true and the people of a relatively small place like centerville are incredibly fat.
As a regular customer of the Centerville DQ, my wife as a message for you.

              Now for me......yeah, pretty much.

I don't know how the Centerville DQ compares nationally but it is almost alway packed. It has much more to do with being a good community member and smart marketing to students over the years than it does with being closed on Sundays. Until he died, the owner was almost always in the store building long term relationships with his customers.

They are remain one of the top earning DQ's in the country, despite being open one day less per week, and a bunch of growth in the area such as In n' Out. Most nights, their parking lot is full, and teh drive-up line is out of the parking lot.
i have probably spent north of $500 at that dq in my lifetime. we went there for a chicken strip basket and/or blizzard after every event in high school. that might have something to do with why i now have to be on a strict diet

Some of the DQ locations only sell ice cream and don't have the other menu items, so they typically close in the winter. There's a DQ in every small town in mid-America. The ones that only sell ice cream all shut down for 4 or 5 months in the winter.

This one sold hot food as well.
