                No good dives?

Cotton Bottom, Woody's, Pats, Granatos, Moochies....

I haven't tried any of those but would be interested.

kc, what are your top 3 recs for a lunch or dinner? I am talking local dives, although I use the term "dive" loosely...mostly meaning not an expensive meal.

I will be up there in Dec and will check some out.

There seems to be several people mentioning Moochies.

Moochies was covered by Guy Fieri with The Food Network on his show "Diner, Drive-In's and Dives".

He also covered some burger joint up there also.

Skip the burger joint - it's well known spot in Layton, but it honestly isn't very good. Moochies and Pats, the two other places he highlighted are very good.

I really like Moochies for a cheesesteak. I've lived in Pennslyvania, and this is as good as anything I've had there. They supposedly do a good meatball sandwich too, but I haven't tried that one.

I would also recommend Sicilia Pizza downtown for calzone - I think. The last time I ate there it was not as good as I remember, but in the past I've thought it to have the best calzone in the valley.

For an italian sub, I would recommend Granato's - get the Italian combo. Some like Caputo's by Pioneer Park, but I think their bread is too tough. Do not go to Gandolfo's.

A good breakfast dive is Over the Counter Cafe in the Millcreek area. Very much a diner/dive. Owned by my HS buddy's mom.

The episode of Diners, Driveins and Dives that features Moochies is on the Food Network tonight.

                            Wuss.

The hard bread is what makes it good.

Ignore his advice about Caputos, but I do agree about Gandalfos.

And also Woody's Drive-in is just meh...it's just okay.

I only go to Gandolfo's for the harlem with steak sauce.

All their sandwiches would be unrecognizeable in a NY deli.
