kccougar, popovers are essentially yorkshire puddings made without the fat. In fact, they are made almost the exact same way and don't look all the dissimilar. And you are right...one of the drawbacks of both is blandness. The recent popover recipe I posted has a nice gruyere mixed into it, giving it a great flavor. A good yorkshire with gravy can be very tasty. In your pic of the place setting, is that gold thing one of those gift popper deals? That is also very UK (often made with toilet paper rolls here in the US).

Maybe we need a separate popover thread, but I thought I ought to post here. My BIL and his wife visited for Christmas this year and since she served her mission in England, one of their Christmas dinner traditions is yorkshire pudding. I generally find yorkshire pudding rather bland, but hers are the best I've had and with a little gravy, almost good. Anyway, the way she bakes the puddings reminded me of the popovers posted here recently:

I recommend you steer clear of the stuffed salmon at Costco. The stuffing includes rice and it will probably remind you of maggots.

WoooHoo!!!! This thread can now get back on track! Thanks JL!!!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostOK, you big crybabies are ruining this fantastic thread so I removed the photos of garlic cloves. Sheesh!

BTW...When my wife first saw the pic, she asked "What are those?!? Worms?" Well...she is from Colombia. I guess they have rather large worms down there?

I had a similar thought.Originally posted by YOhio View PostThe feast looks fantastic, but I have to admit to being a bit grossed out by this shot. Especially knowing that you weren't expecting the garlic. It reminds me of spider eggs or maggots. I don't think I'll ever buy preseasoned prime rib from Costco.

I called ahead because I needed a 15 lb bone in roast. They said they would have one in the morning set aside. When I picked it up, they had seperated the bones and tied them back to the roast with butchers twine. I cooked it similar to what I cooked this years but when I seperated the bones, a nasty piece of red meat fell out from between the bones and the rest of the roast. Apparently Albertsons didnt have a big enough roast, so they cut part of a different roast off and threw it in between the bones and roast on mine to get it to 15 lbs.

This is my main lesson as well. We had plenty for Sunday, but not a ton of leftovers. On Monday night, I had the meat from the bones I had cut off. On Tuesday night, I looked in the fridge, and found that my daughter had eaten the last three pieces sometime between Sunday dinner and Tuesday night.Originally posted by hostile View PostNo leftovers this year
Next time remember to buy a bigger roast.

If I see pink on meat I send it back. I would rather have it burned.
