  • Baked beans recipe

Anyone have a tasty recipe for baked beans? I've seen drunk tank and Eddie jones post pics of baked beans but I can't seem to find the recipes.

Anyone else have some recipes that are crowd pleasers?

    I use a recipe from http://www.patiodaddiobbq.com/.

I think they taste great. This recipe makes a lot of beans, so I usually half it. I'll also add bacon, pulled pork, or whatever meat I am serving these with into the beans as well.

    BEANS FOR A CROWD

    Ingredients
2 cans (55 oz) Bush's Original baked beans
3 cans (15 oz) Original Ranch Style Beans (or chili beans)
    1/2 cup Molasses
    1/2 cup Ketchup
2 medium Yellow onions, diced to 1/4"
2 Tbsp Bacon fat (or canola/vegetable oil)
    2 Tbsp Plain yellow mustard
    2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp Tiger Sauce (or your favorite hot sauce)
    1 Tbsp Apple cider vinegar

    Method
    Preheat your oven to 325º.

Heat a medium pan over medium-high heat.

Add the bacon fat/oil and let heat 30 seconds.

Add the onions and cook until they are translucent and just barely starting to brown on the edges.

Remove the pan from the heat.

Add all of the other ingredients, except the beans, to the pan and stir to mix well.

Add the beans (do not drain them) to a large deep baking dish.

Note: I use disposable aluminum lasagna pans.

Add the onion and sauce mixture to the beans, and stir to combine well.

Cover the pan with foil and bake for 90 minutes.

Remove the foil, stir, and bake another 30 minutes.

    Serve and enjoy!

Tip: Of course you can cook these uncovered on your smoker to really take them over the top. You'll probably need to add a little water toward the end to loosen them up.

      1 can black beans (drained)
      1 can kidney beans (drained)

      1 can tomato soup
      1 C ketchup
      1 C BBQ sauce (Sweet Baby Ray's)
      3/4 C crumbled bacon
1/4 C brown sugar (adjust to taste)

Slow cook in oven until thick.

Thanks. I will definitely try these this weekend.

        Couple of questions...

Given the cook time, do you use raw bacon and just let it cook while the beans bake for 2 hours?

In the event I cannot find Ranch Style brand beans here in Utah, I assume any chili beans would do? And again, chili beans with no meat, correct?

We buy the crumbled bacon in the zip-bag from Costco and keep it in the freezer. Very handy and Jim Gaffigan approved.

I cook the bacon then cruimble it in. Cook the onion in the bacon fat.

I'd try for the Ranch Beans, but any canned chili beans will do (no meat).

I made this recipe and really liked it. No raisins of course, that just sounded disgusting.

1 red bell pepper, coarsley chopped
1 jalapeño, or more or less to your taste, coarsley chopped

I banged out Drunk Tanks beans recipe first since his was the first one posted. The local grocery story sells ranch style beans, so I was good to go.

This is a very simple recipe and tastes fantastic. Drunk tank wasn't kidding....the yield is insane. Even half is a lot. I made the whole recipe and have a full 6 quart Dutch oven filled to the rim with Brim.

I cooked up a package of thick bacon and added it. Also, had some pulled pork left over from a few nights ago so added that. Came out perfectly.

I have let them sit for a couple of hours and they have thickened up nicely, dinner in about an hour. Can't wait.

One thing about the flavor...this recipe yields a more tangy bean sauce. I may tinker with it a bit next time to get more sweet and less vinegar, although I love vinegar. Maybe add some brown sugar to the mix.

                  Thanks drunk tank.

DT, I tried your recipe tonight. I halved it and added a cup or so of crumbled bacon and a bit of Siracha sauce (gave it just the right amount of heat). It was outstanding. I like it better than the recipe I posted (which I think is too sweet).

So I gave the brisket from last week to my brother and he's been smoking it overnight. I'm having all of my family over to dinner at our house tonight, and we're doing the baked beans and the dessert.

I'm doing a Frankenstein version of the three recipes included in this thread so we'll see how it goes. I just finished cooking bacon to crumble up and sauteing the onion in the bacon grease. I'm going to smell lovely when I head over to church in 10 minutes.

I like the dramatic lighting in that pic. Almost a sense of foreboding. Possibly the most emotive picture of bacon I have seen on this site.

I'm totally winging it now. So far in the crockpot I've got:

                              1 can black beans
                              1 can red beans
                              1 can northern beans
                              1 can kidney plans
                              12 oz bacon
Sauted onions, red and yellow peppers
                              1/2 cup brown sugar
                              1 cup ketchup
1 cup bbq sauce (Stubbs - not too sweet)
                              1 T deli mustard
                              Dash of liquid smoke (hickory)
                              Dash of sriracha sauce
                              Kosher salt
                              Pepper

When I get home from Priesthood Mtg I will taste and see what needs to be adjusted.
