wuap, I'm going to give this a try. I've got 5 Liberty cucumber plants in my garden and they are starting to produce. Can't wait. I'll let you know how it turns out after I'm able to make some of your pickles.
I'm going to have to try this recipe. I know you said this wouldn't work with salad cucumbers, but is this true even if the salad cucumbers were not allowed to grow to their usual size?
Also, have you tried pickling other veggies? I have carrots, and peppers (jalapenos, anaheims, bell) I would like to pickle as well. I need to get my hands on a good recipe for those.
I got two BUSHELS of pickling cukes yesterday at the Columbia Farmers Market for $20 total. Tonight, I shall be making pickles.
I can't say about salad cucumbers, but they won't be as crisp. As to other veggies, that's in the cards for tomorrow if I can get some other projects done tonight.

You live in a hot dry place, right? If they aren't grown locally, maybe go talk to the produce manager at your local grocery store about ordering you a case. The farmers market wholesale price right now is $23 in my neck of the woods, down from $32 in late April.
I went to the local farmers market today and talked to one of the local growers. She had a few on her table and I picked up a couple lbs. of them, but she said in about 2 weeks, she will be swimming in them. She gave me her contact info and said to call her the day before I want them with the quantity and size I want and she would have them waiting for me at her store.
On a side note, there was a vendor selling what she called "Indian Pickles" which were sweet and spicy. They were great but she wanted $26.00 for a large jar!
Lately I've been on a Bread and Butter pickled cucumber kick. There's a nearby farm that produces their own brand and they're insanely good. I'm going through a jar every couple of weeks.
I just saw these at the store tonight. What is a bread and butter pickle?
Waup, I have bought everything I need to make these pickles, except I cannot find pickling cucumbers... None of the stores here carry them and thus far I have not been able to go to any farmers markets to see if I can find them. Frustrating. I am looking forward to making these.
