  • Cheese and apple pie

It has come to my attention that there is a segment of the American population (mostly geezers, if I understand correctly) that enjoy apple pie with cheese.

Sometimes the cheese on the pie is sharp cheddar, sometimes just melted american, but regardless of the kind of cheese, it is always gross.

Do any of you eat your apple pie with cheese? If so, do you also put ketchup on your ice cream and maple syrup on your steak?

Are there any other insane american food practices that I am unaware of?

From the menu at Marie Callendars:

Apple pie without some cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze
I agree that this is a geezer practice that is going the way of the dodo.

As for other sacrilege: my FIL and BIL put ketchup on their pizza. Exquisite pizza from The Pie and they ruin it with ketchup.

      That sounds...odd.

I do know that pb&bacon sandwiches used to be quite popular. I believe it was Oscar Mayer that used to sell it pre-mixed.

That is very weird. My 6 YO eats burritos with ketchup.

Apple pie and cheese is an American classic I have yet to sample.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I know lots of people that do this. I have never tried it either though. However as a kid I used to shred sharp cheddar over canned pears. I loved that.

I haven't tried it but the other day when I was making my kids' lunch of crackers, cheese and apple slices, I decided to try an apple slice with cheese (because apparently this is also an American classic). I wouldn't say that it was gross, but it wasn't really tasty either. I think I will stick to apple pie ala mode.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Apples and cheese is awesome. We often buy this triple cream brie that is like butter that we spread on honeycrisp wedges. Amazing.

I'm a geezer, but have never consumed cheese with apple pie, although I've seen pictures of pie slices with a strip of cheddar on top. No thanks.

As to other insane food practices, my wife and her family pour hot tomato juice on French Toast. I am not making this up. Fortunately for me, she does not impose her weird beliefs on the rest of us, and the marriage endures.

My father has extra sharp chedder with his apple pie all the time. I never saw the attraction

I may be small, but I'm slow.

I've had this. I had heard about it several times, so I thought I would try it. It wasn't terrible, but apple pie without cheese is better than apple pie with cheese, so I don't add it anymore.

Did the Pie start serving exquisite pizza? I will have to go try that out. I've normally had way overpriced average pizza with rubbery cheese on top. I think a large family pizza with a few toppings and a pitcher of soda costs around 40 bones.

Sharp cheddar melted on a gooey cinnamon roll is lovely.
