We ate at Lawry's: Prime Rib tonight. Best. Prime Rib. Ever. Cowboy would shed a tear for its greatness.

Not to burst your bubble, but you only had to drive 2.5 hours south of your house to eat at Lawry's. I'm sorry you flew all the way to Chicago for it. I wish you'd asked!

I agree, though. Lawry's Prime Rib is great.

        Poag Mahone's, good burger.

Any recommendations for classic Chicago style deep dish pizza?

          My favorites were:

Gino's East: A ton of cheese and a disc of sausage
Lou Malnati's: Crust is a bit different than most of the others. Buttery, and made with some corn meal.
Pizzeria Uno or Due: The originals (arguably). Don't think you know what Uno is about if you have eaten in one of the crappy franchise places. This is not the same thing at all.

I moved away 10 years ago, so hopefully none of these have gone downhill in the last decade.

My recommendation: skip the deep dish pizza. It's just not that good, even at its best.

I'm partial to Giordano's. CA's list covers the other usual suspects.

I have really enjoyed The Exchequer on Wabash during my Chicago trips. Been there a few times and have always had great food/deep dish.

Geno's East: Deep dish. Extra spinach, cheese, and sauce. It does not sound good, but it was my favorite.

Donuthole is incorrect. Gino's sausage deep dish is excellent.

Some coworkers want to go to either Gino's or Giordano's tomorrow night.

I'm with Donuthole. Deep dish isn't pizza.

I read that Charlie trotter died. I ate there back in the early 2000s now and then when in chicago. Pretty good eats but sometimes overrated.

I'll spare you all the thread jack extolling my love of NY pizza and my favorite places. I'll instead just say I agree with DH and MG that deep dish isn't real pizza. I don't hate it but I never crave it.
