A new place opened up close relatively close to where we live that makes New York style pizza. My wife and I gave it a try and it was very, very good. It's a mom & pop type place, it's in an odd location and it's a little overpriced. So I am scared that it may not last (then again, the Pizza Factory seems to thrive and that place is really overpriced).

I lived in NYC for only one year and I grew to love New York style pizza above all other styles. I am very happy about this new place.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Didn't you get your share of Brick Oven Pizza in law school? FYI, that's not NY-style pizza.

There's a place sort of like that that just opened near my house. Its in a very poor location (by my estimations) and I can't see it lasting too long. Its been about 6 months so far, though. I should give it a try, but I keep thinking about how I'm the only one in my family that might actually appreciate it. My kids couldn't tell the difference between this and little caeser's (and they LOVE "caesar's pizza").

Brick Oven isn't Mom & Pop. It's not in an odd location. It isn't New York Style (it's soggy crust style). However it is overpriced, otherwise it's nothing like the place I'm describing.

BTW, during my entire time at BYU, I went to the Brick Oven literally twice.

My post was mostly TIC, of course. However I was serious about eating Brick Oven pizza during law school. I didn't set foot in the Brick Oven, but I ate their pizza at least once a week at some law school event/meeting/something or other. Maybe they got their pizza from somewhere else while you were there.

My wife and my 2 year old loved it. My 2 year old is the canary in the coal mine as far as pizza goes. As soon as we give her a piece, she knows immediately whether it's rubbish or not.

We got a Costco pizza the other night which was absolutely awful (Costco is very hit or miss, but the Costco is only five minutes from our house and is the closest place that sells pizza). My daughter wouldn't touch it. Papa John's, no way. She loves Pier 49 (I like it too). And she really loved this New York style place. We had one piece left over and my wife warmed it up for lunch for my daughter before church (which starts at 1:00 this year). She ate the whole piece (a full sized slice), and then savored the crust for the next hour all the way until church.

Actually, I do remember having some of their pizza at law school, but I think it was more evenly split with Papa John's. The Brick Oven never struck me as being particularly good for the price, that's why I never went there. If I wanted to spend that kind of money on pizza, I'd just go to Pier 49 which is usually pretty good.

You should give it a try. My wife and I saw a commercial for it in the theater while we were waiting for Toy Story 3 to start. I was very pleasantly surprised.

My FIL loves NY style also and they have a place that has some pseudo NY style up where my wife's parents live. It's slightly thicker that NY style but still very good. This stuff I got last week really is NY style. They have that thin chewy crust thing down perfectly. It's not crunchy like the thin crust stuff you get at national chains.

But big chains have tried to introduce NY style and they've usually failed with it. I think it's because they price it the same as the thick pizza and people aren't willing to spend as much money for something that they think doesn't provide as much food. Apparently it's all about the portions with people.

The Brick Oven never struck me as being particularly good, period. But when it's free, and you're a broke law school student, you eat it anyway.

Now that you mention it, I think the "exclusive" deal with Brick Oven started my 1L year, as I remember the new SB President bragging about how he negotiated the deal during intro week. Personally, I'd have rather eaten Papa Johns.

Two more times than me. That place sucked. AFAIK, the best place to get pizza in Provo is Papa John's.

B/c I went there for some recruiting dinner BYU had when I was in HS, and prior to that with my parents (who somehow thought it was good). I was speaking about the time I was at BYU as a student.

Great tip! I can't wait to try it. I'll have to go see Toy Story 3 first to get the NAME of the place, but that's easy enough.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Provo/Orem both have a ton of new pizza places. I like Pier 49 the best in Utah, but I also think if you are going for value Costco tops Little Caesars, Dominos, Pizza hut, etc. Papa Johns is a bit more pricey and I would put it a notch above Costco.
