Although I voted for Forage, the uncertainty of their menu deterred my daughter and her BF, so Spencer's it is. I'm hopeful it will be in the same quality ballpark as Ruth's Chris which, while not at the apex of steakhouses, is still really good.

Shall I wear my faded mesh BYU Football cap to the ceremony?

I think the cap would be a very nice touch. I'm sure my father (a Ute) will wear his red colors to my daughter's graduation from the Y next year.

Please post how the dinner is at Spencers. My daughter is planning on Ruth Chris next year, if there is something better, I may want to sway her.

Yesterday former Ruths Criss owner Gene Kwon was charged with theft, securities fraud, and unlawful activity. He skipped town in 2007 owing millions of dollars. Creditors have alleged that Kwon squandered his money on fast cars, private jets and country clubs.

Kwon's restaurant, Ruths Criss Steakhouse, closed in Jan 2009, with several employees unpaid. Florida-based Ruth's Chris withdrew its franchise and awarded it to another owner. A new Ruth's Chris will reopen in mid-May in the former Chase Bank building, at 275 S. West Temple St. in Salt Lake City.

I just saw Gene Kwon at my son's little league baseball game. I wonder if he has settled his debts.

Spencer's is my favorite steakhouse in SLC. I like it better than Ruth's Chris or Fleming's. I've never tried Christopher's nor do I plan to. I just had a great ribeye at The New Yorker. With the change in the liquor laws in SLC, The New Yorker is no longer a private club and no membership is required to eat there. I would recommend a reservation.

Pity. You're missing out on a top-notch dining experience where the surprises are some of the best parts of the meal!

Spencer's is good, though. You'll eat well. Have fun and wish your daughter congrats from the friendly folks at CUF!

I haven't eaten at Spencers in SLC, but I took clients to the Spokane location often and was never disappointed. Solid option.

Does anyone have strong feelings either way about those choices, or other recommendations (we've eaten a few times at Cucina Toscana which I quite like, but we'll go for something new this time).

As the honoree is now, or will shortly be, an RN, I'm fine with eating a side of beef as her Heimlich skills are topnotch.
                  Congrats to the Ute Princess.

I know I'm in the minority here, but why blow money on fancy food? You're just going to be hungry again in a couple of hours.

So, I vote you just go to B&D burgers. I think they still have half-price burgers on Tuesday nights.

Or you could hit the TGI Fridays on Foothill. I ran into Andre Miller there after his last home college basketball game in 1999. He was with his whole family and asked me to snap a photo for the group. If it's good enough for Andre, it's good enough for the Ute Princess.

It's a shame you weren't born into the PAC family, as your wisdom on this subject would have been most appreciated. But Spencer's was very good and we had a great time. I wish I'd gone with the filet rather than the ribeye, but everyone was pleased with their meals. Ordering more than two sides was a mistake, and we left large portions of our desserts on the the table, but excess seemed to be the rule of the day. Fortunately, we're staying a few floors directly above the restaurant so they were able to hand truck me to the elevator, hit the button for our floor, and we crawled from there into our room.

I don't think PAC had liquid steak though.
