I find breadmaking quite soothing, a lot like knitting in that respect.

May I recommend this recipe if you're into lovely chewy whole wheat bread? I tried it a few days ago and it turned out fantastically. It's quite easy to follow and will yield a generous hunk of raw dough that can be refrigerated and brought out when you want to make a fresh loaf.

The dough hook is pretty failsafe and effective, IMO.
Supposedly these cookie paddles are indestructible:

We have a pair and they haven't broken yet. They work for about anything the dough hook won't work for.

Every Kitchenaid is assembled in the fine Dayton-area town of Greenville, Ohio. Buy American.

I like Kitchenaid, but not because it is made in Ohio.

I thought that had to be said.

Just be careful with KitchenAid. They look identical, but there can be marked differences in the size of motor. Dont get the consumer version, or the artisanal version. Look for the highest wattage.

We have a Bosch that my mother used to own. I think she had it when I lived at home. I.e., it is as old as dirt and still works beautifully.

If you ever get a translator, be sure it speaks Bosch.

I also received a grain grinder from my parents, so I used that to grind wheat flour today. I made whole wheat pizza crust out of it, topped with homemade pesto, chicken, parmigiano reggiano, and artichoke hearts. Yum.

That's what my moisture vaporators speak.

My wife bakes and decorates cakes for all kinds of events so our Kitchenaid gets a pretty good workout and we've never had a problem.

Bosch is my top choice for power tools.

Pfaff is my choice for sewing machine.

KitchenAid Pro. 600 is my choice for mixer.

My mom used a Bosch mixer when I was growing up, she swore by it and still has it I think. It hasnt seen the light of day since she bought a Kitchenaid. I was given a Kitchenaid for a wedding gift (300 watt basic model). It lasted about 10 years of light use. It still works, but a seal must have broke because I get oil seeping down where the paddles attach. I just bought a new 600 watt pro model, which is very nice. I like the larger capacity of the bigger bowl.

Last night I dreamt that I was attending a cooking show in person, and the faceless host was making bread as part of the show. He had two mixers (one Bosch, one Kitchenaid) on the counter, and when he was almost ready to add the dry ingredients to the mixing bowl, he intentionally elbowed one of the mixers and sent it crashing to the floor, where it shattered into pieces. The crowd cheered raucously, and it became clear to me that this guy's schtick was to place two competing brands of kitchen appliances on the counter and choose one to use. The one he didn't choose got knocked to the floor.

Sadly, I don't remember if it was the Bosch or the KitchenAid that he knocked to the floor. But I would like to thank Mrs. Funk for a memorable dream that I likely wouldn't have experienced without this thread.
