the sodium is what blows me away. and the grilled version has even more sodium than the fried version (I don't get that one).

visually it is an unappealing meal. it looks gross.

i will admit that I'm not as up-to-date on the effects of sodium, mostly because I had to supplement with high-sodium sports drinks when I was really training last year (the same time I was doing all my nutritional research). What's the deal on it - is it a high blood pressure thing?

More sodium on the grilled makes sense to me. You don't use salt in breading or frying. You do use salt in marinading and grilling.

yeah, mostly the hypertension (obviously one sandwich won't kill you) and water retention. eating one of those double downs will make your face and ankles puffy.

Your explanation re: grilling does make sense. teriyaki is loaded with salt, as are almost all marinades.

So, Surfah and I are the only ones brave enough to attempt the Double Down? Maybe I'll do it for lunch today. Yum.

I'm seriously considering a trip to KFC today for one as well. I haven't eaten there in at least 5 years, but I'm being tempted.

            Thanks for the encouragement, LiveCoug!

They have to be, if you do them right - osmosis and all of that.

I do agree that the DD is one of the most unappealing sandwiches I've seen in a long time, visually. I might grill up a chicken breast, put it on a wheat roll with some bacon, pepper jack cheese, and a thin layer of ranch dressing. That sounds tasty if not exactly fit-day approved. But two fried chicken breasts as the bun? That's just nasty.

Over at the AV Club, they do a feature called "Taste Test" where they try out weird/terrible-looking foods. One of their writers dared the Double Down when it debuted in a few test cities last fall: http://www.avclub.com/articles/kfcs-...andwich,32804/

                      Pretty funny stuff.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

The only way that this "sandwich" could possibly be better would be if the chicken was wrapped in bacon.

My doc (under the directions of my wife) put me on a diet about 4 months ago. I'm not exercising as much as I should, but I have dropped 17 lbs. There is no way I'd be allowed to eat that thing as my wife knows what I'm always doing.

                                I'd try the grilled version.

And as far as calories go, a bun has like 250 calories, so that's probably why it's so low. Plus it doesn't appear to be slathered with any mayonaise which will add calories.
