Godfather's Pizza. Slowly dying out, it seems, but I always felt it was a significant upgrade over the other national pizza chains. Roundtable Pizza is in the same boat.

I loved the Godfather's lunch buffet in high school. It contributed far too much to my weight problems.

I'm putting my vote in for Maggiano's. My wife and I used to eat there frequently in Denver and recently ate at one in Philly. Portion sizes are very good and prices are reasonable. I have yet to order something that I didn't think was any worse than very good.

I would say Winger's simply because I love their amazing sauce and their blackened chicken alfredo.

I can agree with this. It is certainly a safe choice when traveling.

This is interesting because most of the food I enjoy eating doesn't really have "national" chains.......indian, sushi, chinese, mexican, shabu shabu, bbq (tony romas is a chain, but I don't like it)

                  Others that come to mind:

                  Steak: Ruth's Chris

Misc American: the Cheesecake Factory/Houstons type places...a decent meal esp if you have a wide variety of tastes in your group

Italian: I enjoy italian food but I hate Olive Garden. Is there a good Italian chain?

Mexican: not aware of any national chains and I do not consider fast food to be "mexican" food

                  Pizza: California Pizza Kitchen

Buca di Beppo isn't that great, but it's edible. The best thing about it is the decor. It's just like walking into any 60+ aged Sicilian's home.

Ah, I forgot Maggis. Yes, there is one right here at South Coast Plaza. yes, ok, it is certainly much better than Olive Garden. They give you a pound of food and sometimes the quality strays towards Spaghetti Factory-gross, but of the italian chains, I would agree that it probably does rank up there.

Someone listed Texas Roadhouse for family dining. Is that a national chain?

Not a big fan, but I have only eaten there once at the Anaheim location.

serious? I've tried, but I just can't learn to dig that place. I am not saying that I find the food to taste gross......but it just doesn't appeal to me at all. I can eat it though, but it isn't even my third or fourth choice.

what am I doing wrong? is there anything I should be ordering?
