We normally do something Christmas Eve and have leftovers Christmas Day. My family does not have a Christmas Eve tradition and his family's is clam chowder (which he hates) so a few years ago we started our own. I make Arabic food. I figure if Jesus were born today in Bethlehem, he wouldn't be eating ham and scalloped potatoes. Our menu:

    Egg nog
    Homemade pita
    hummus
    baba ghanouj
    Tabouleh
    rice pilaf
Beef shawarma (I already have it marinating)
    Falafel
    tahini sauce
Crème brulee (We needed some French influence)

Also, danimal has a traditional Christmas morning breakfast which consists of fried spam, hollandaise sauce, poached eggs and English muffins. This is from his family and goes way back. Not my favorite, but as long as he makes it, I support it.
How do you cook your falafel? We previously tried to fry it in a pan, but we're much more satisfied with frying it in the Fry Daddy.

I am sure the fry daddy is better but we just fry them in a pan. I poke a little hole in the middle--not all the way through--but it seems to help them cook all the way through.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

One of those words that I can't pronounce darn well better have been beef in some Mediterranean language.

I promise to make up for it between now and New years. I promise!

                  What? No baklava?

I love those eggnog stands throughout the Middle East. And the varieties, oh my. Odd as it may sound, I've found the Yemenis make the best eggnog. Simply divine. But you pay for it; great going down, not so great coming back up.

We go Italian on Christmas Eve. Fish and pasta. This year Mrs. myboynoah is going to introduce a shrimp linguini dish. I can't wait. I've been assigned to find the shrimp.

We're not so happy with our Christmas Day fare: Ham and some kind of potatoes. We're looking for something different. Your Middle Eastern option sounds not only delicious and culturally very cool, but also doable.

I'm going to take a shot at making danimal's eggnog tonight. Wish me luck.
                  Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Last night I picked up an eight-pound prime rib roast for Christmas Eve (and, reluctantly, a seasoned turkey breast for the wimps). I thank you for your service on behalf of our country.

We do the big dinner on Christmas day. For Christmas Eve I think I'm going to do carnitas, chips and salsa, etc. this year. Or I've been meaning to try my hand at tamales ... might be a good chance to do that.

Pretty much every grocery ad in the mail the other day had huge deals on whole ribeyes and other cuts. I felt bad for Cowboy but also noted that he called it. And I bought some of course.

Yup, I noticed this year's was quite a bit cheaper than last year's. Thrilled with my windfall, but feeling pangs of regret for our board brother, I tipped Carlos the Butcher a sawbuck and told him to see that cowboy got it. I'm sure it's on its way.

My in-laws are prime rib fanatics. But my FIL is also a surf and turf fanatic, so its prime rib AND king crab legs.

Christmas is at my house this year, so I'm going to push for the seperation of prime rib and crab legs. Crab legs and something like New York strips together on Christmas Eve. Prime rib the next day. I'm also entertaining the thought of cooking ribs. I've only done it three times but they always turn out well. I just throw together a marinade of Dr. Pepper, Famous Daves sauce, soy sauce and brown sugar and let everything soak. I'm toying with the idea of picking up a bottle of Jack Daniels and experimenting with ribs.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I'll be sure to let you know when I see discounts coming in the future. It's the least I can do for friends who are so willing to help support the industry.

By the time Carlos took his commission I was left with 50 cents, but I appreciate the thought. We have to get those middle cuts moved though, so keep buying the rib roasts and fill your freezer. As an added bonus, I'm pretty sure that your grand kids will develop special superpowers if you help them double their beef consumption. If they triple their consumption, then they'll be recruited by the Cougs to play man defense in the secondary.
