  • Michael Moore is back at it

New movie coming out in October is called Capitalism: A Love Story. I really want to see this for the laughs, but I don't want this guy getting any of my money. Bit Torrent is the morally correct answer in this situation.

I find it utterly discouraging how many people view Moore as a serious and fair documentary maker.

Well the last time he made a movie he encouraged folks to torrent it so maybe he'll do it again.

The better to spread his propaganda. Good move.

I like Michael Moore's documentaries. I think they have all been pretty interesting.

I find that he receives an inordinate amount of criticism from people that have never actually seen the film they are criticizing. I know folks here have seen his movies, so my comment isn't necessarily aimed at anyone here not named JohnnyLingo.

Part of the problem is that few people watch many documentaries so they don't understand that there generally is a blatant agenda. Yes, MM is extremely biased. Those who watch MM movies thinking they're getting an unbiased look at the issue aren't any smarter thant Republicans who watch fox or Democrats who watch Olberman thinking they're getting anything like objectivity. The problem here isn't necessarily MM, it's the ignorant masses who think there's no agenda (or that there is one and that he's therefore a scumbag)

I agree. His movies have an obvious agenda -- it's not like he's presenting a balanced view of both sides of the political spectrum on gun control or health care.

But even though I disagree with most of his conclusions, I think his movies are fairly entertaining and well done.

Moore presents himself as a Bringer of Truth. If he had no problem admitting that his films all have blatant agendas, I'd be fine with him.

Anyone who speaks on any issue think that they are the bringer of truth. What should he say "Gosh, this is just my opinion on this, I hope you like it"?

Do you have similar issues with Limbaugh, Hannity, Coulter, Savage, etc.? If so, are there any commentators on either side of the political spectrum who get it just right, in your view?

Something like that. People are stupid. They think documentaries are all unbiased portrayals of the subject matter. Moore preys on these people intentionally.

They label themselves as conservative commentators. People know what they are.

I have found Roger & Me to be entertaining even though I didn't agree with the message. Bowling for Columbine cured me of ever wanting to watch one of his documentaries again. The problem that I have isn't with the agenda, every single documentary has an agenda. The problem that I have is the outright fiction and intellectual dishonest that is a problem in his films. Having an agenda is fine, lying to make your point in a documentary is not.
