In fiction right now I'm reading The Mysterious Benedict Society, which I'd highly recommend for older kids or for anybody that enjoyed the Harry Potter books.

Every time I hear of that book, I can't help remembering that old lame joke by Rodney Dangerfield: I got a sweater for christmas. I wanted a moaner or a screamer, but I got a sweater...

Just finished Min Jin Lee's Free Food for Millionaires. Adored it. Fabulous, although I can't say for sure that it is not a chick book.

But this isn't a thread about excellent books, now, is it? It's clearly a thread asking "what fiction are you currently reading?" So if Mr. Lebowski is citing biography here, then he either

              1) can't read the thread's title (which begs the question what he's doing with a book about Hamilton)

              or

              2) can't classify his books properly (and I'm pretty sure that even the new guy who can't tell his polygons apart can discern fiction from non-fiction).

Either one is inexcusable. Maybe he was homeschooled.

Next you're going to tell me he doesn't even put call numbers on his books.

Listen here, kiddo. I sat there and let your OU-football-players-are-so-stupid-they-can't-score-their-age-on-exams comments go by with nary a response. And then I make one brain fart and you pile it on.

                    Harumph.

are you comparing your intelligence to that of the OU linemen?

Honestly, I think that really speaks for itself.

                        Hardy har har.

                        OK, back to fiction:

Anybody here read Water for Elephants? I picked up a copy last fall and enjoyed it quite a bit. I didn't know until after I read the book that the storyline was loosely connected to the biblical story of Jacob. Still not sure that I saw all of the connections.

I tried to support you, but with comebacks like this one, I see you need no help at all.

I've seen this book several times in the bookstores, but nowhere on the back or inside doesn't it give a brief statement what the book is about.......so my question is what in the hell is the book about?

It has the word 'elephant' in the title, the symbol of the GOP. Shouldn't that be enough?
