Just watched "A Real Pain" on Hulu. We both loved it. A beautiful character-driven movie. Kieran Culkin was amazing.

Agreed; we both enjoyed it a lot. The title is clever and apt. After it was over, my wife said she thought Culkin was excellent and maybe she should watch Succession. I told her he's great in that as well, although he's over-the-top crude, including whacking off in front a large picture window. She'll pass.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostJust watched "A Real Pain" on Hulu. We both loved it. A beautiful character-driven movie. Kieran Culkin was amazing.
Back to A Real Pain, it was fascinating to watch both characters deal with the range of emotions that arise from visiting a concentration camp and home of one's ancestors. Our recent visit to Auschwitz was one of the most emotional experiences of our lives, perhaps even moreso than the American Cemetery at Normandy. As we stood by ourselves beneath the "Arbeit Macht Frei" arch at the camp's entrance,.I told the missus we should have a picture taken of us jumping and kicking our legs up, with outstretched arms, as so many do (very tritely) in front of famous places. I thought it was obvious I was more than a little facetious, but she was not amused. Still, an example of the huge range of thoughts one has in such a tragic place, and which the film's characters were working through.

Jesse Eisenberg wrote and directed the movie and his orginal plan was for him to play the Benji character himself. Then he spent some time with Kieran and decided he would be perfect for the role. Ended up being a brilliant decision as Kieran hit it out of the park and Jesse was equally good as the uptight OCD cousin.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View Post

The cinematography was equally good. I want to go to Poland now."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

The Lowdown (an FX show on Hulu) is really good so far (I'm two episodes in). Ethan Hawke is the main character and plays an independent journalist investigating a politically prominent family in Oklahoma. It's better than that makes it sound. Definitely recommend it for anyone that likes the gritty crime drama genre.

I wonder why it only has a 6.9 on IMDB? Hmm..."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
