Finally read this. I found it slow and boring and perhaps pretentious. It felt like I was reading the story move along in real time.

If only. My mom's political alliance has survived multiple secretive thoughtful conservative account add-ons on facebook, 3 left-leaning sons, and now Mitt Romney's influence. She will not likely change.

This book did not, in fact, have its desired effect. I wasn't even sure if my Mom had read it, but I recently asked her and she said yes. Hoping for a breakthrough I asked her what she thought of it. She said she has always liked Romney but now he is being too bitter, and all his attacks are aimed at the GOP. 8 years of constant Fox News watching has served it's purpose...

A few weeks ago she did call to tell me that she didn't agree with Trump on his annex Canada obsession. I thought, 'ooh, a potential inroad I can make some progress with her', and I said that it's the same issue with Greenland and Panama. But no, Trump had very legitimate reasons to want to invade those countries. I tried one more front; free trade and the insanity of raising tariffs on your most important ally. Unfortunately she parroted the line that countries have been ripping of the US for years and Trump is just trying to correct all those injustices the poor country has had to endure.

I suspect that having a Canadian DIL and me recently moving there she wanted to offer a very limited olive branch.

I was driving a lot this week, so I listened to this. It is very good.

I think that one and The Bones Beneath My Skin are standalone books.

I'm going to read "Somewhere Beyond the Sea", which I heard was sort of a sequel to The House in the Cerulean Sea. If you haven't read that one, I highly recommend it.

It had its moments, but just not as an enjoyable read. The characters were not as easy to love as in the other one, which was probably by design.

Klune can tell a good story. I'll still read other books of his.
