Lol. Look at his tour schedule.

The idea that his career is built on a foundation of LDS fans is funny.

    • One comic that is popular with the LDS is Ryan Hamilton- a Mormon kid from Idaho. Normally I can't stand LDS attempts to be funny bc they often aren't-- (e.g. those movies from the early 2000's-- single's ward, etc.) But the problem with Ryan is that he is actually funny, and toured opening for Jerry Seinfeld a couple of years ago. I think he's the only legit comic that is regularly playing in places like Rexburg and Idaho Falls. Good for him!

      • I haven't gone to a comedy show since before I was married. Bo Jr bought the misses and me tickets to Regan for Christmas. It's nothing I would have paid for, but I'm sure we'll have a great time. He's a funny guy.

He is doing a show in Boston in a few weeks. My daughter and SIL are going to see him. His Netflix special is good.

While I agree that he is in no way propped up by LDS fans, it is funny to note that he has 5 shows scheduled in Salt Lake in March. The only other city with multiple nights is Las Vegas with 2. There are some Mormons in Vegas.

Yeah it is very good, I think it's called Happy Face?

Also the discussion about Regan being propped up by Mormons is pretty funny. There aren't enough of us to prop someone up to the level Regan achieved. If it's just about being clean you could claim Gaffigan was propped up by Mormons as well but clearly that's not the case.

              • Brian Regan:

                1) Is not funny;
                2) Is not only successful because of Mormons; and,
                3) Is more famous because of and has made a lot of extra money because of Mormons.

He is a great example of family friendly comedians not being funny.

I watched Nate Bargatze. He is an example of being family friendly and funny. He would be funnier though if he swore more and threw in some dick jokes. SJBH.

                  Yep.

Gaffigan has a bit where he jokes that people always tell him he looks like a Mormon. Also because he has a lot of kids.

He was raised in a religious, fairly conservative southern household. He has a recent bit where he jokes about how he was way more conservative than his sister as a teenager and freaked out when she got a tattoo.

He has a down-to-earth style and he weaves in a lot of self-deprecation. It all works really well.

I love that bit. And his parents got a tattoo with her. But they were more strict with him and he wasn't allowed to say "sucks" growing up. "This really stinks, you guys!"

We weren't allowed to say "sucks" growing up in my family. We also had to stay in church clothes all day on Sunday. I should be funnier than I am.

Clark, you are a funny dude! Even without the dick jokes.

You sound like my best friend. He isn't very funny either.

He says stuff like "crud" instead of "crap" and "stinks" instead of "sucks". If he references the male genitalia at all in a humoruos way, he'll say "johnson" or "special purpose."
