VidAngel kinda sounds like a porn site.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Because of your posting of this ad, I will be using vidangel this evening to introduce my wife to Game of Thrones. Who knows if the objectionable material removal will ruin the show.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post
The second thing to note is vidangel apparently allows you to stream movies for much cheaper than anywhere else other than movies that are available on Netflix, Hulu, etc.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

And VidAngel is getting sued by Disney, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros.
http://www.sltrib.com/news/4006414-1...companies-file
The lawsuit contests claims by VidAngel that their actions are legal because VidAngel sells instead of rents programs to users. The whole "content-edited movies" concept didn't work for CleanFlicks and I suspect the Courts will not accept the idea that one can buy the move, watch it, then sell it back to the same vendor on the same day and therefore because you own it for the duration that you're watching it you can edit the content.Through VidAngel's site, users can "buy" a movie for $20, view it and then "sell" it back for $19 in VidAngel credit that same day.

I suppose Disney and the others care much less about people editing out curse words a whole lot more about VidAngel basically renting these movies for $1.Originally posted by BigFatMeanie View PostAnd VidAngel is getting sued by Disney, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros.

Right. Unlike the CleanFlicks case, this argument isn't expressly about the protection of artistic rights. (That would probably be a part the argument if there weren't such a better, dead-bang winner of an argument to make). I assumed (silly me) VidAngel had a bunch of streaming contracts in place. Unreal that they thought they could establish a viable business model by essentially pirating content.Originally posted by falafel View PostI suppose Disney and the others care much less about people editing out curse words a whole lot more about VidAngel basically renting these movies for $1.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

Supposedly they have.physical copies of the blu-rays on hand and remove copies from circulation/straming when someone has it purchased (with the intent of returning it).Originally posted by Donuthole View PostRight. In theory, it's similar to Red Box. I'm not sure if Red Box needs special permission to rent the blu-raysPart of it is based on academic grounds. I believe that "rental copies" of movies cost much more than the kind you buy for your personal collection. I don't think you could just grab all your own DVDs and put up a rental box on the corner charging $1 to rent your personal copy.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostSupposedly they have.physical copies of the blu-rays on hand and remove copies from circulation/straming when someone has it purchased (with the intent of returning it).

BYU videos
Not to mention you can't just treat digital media as if it is physical media or vice versa. They're not interchangeable.Originally posted by falafel View PostI believe that "rental copies" of movies cost much more than the kind you buy for your personal collection. I managed a video rental store for a year pre and post mission, greatest job ever. The brand new movies in VHS were like $75-100. You paid a huge premium to get them before Media Play could sell them. Then the old movies that were $11-15 at Media Play we could order through our catalog for $2-4. That was almost 20 years ago, I obviously have no idea how things work now.Originally posted by falafel View PostI believe that "rental copies" of movies cost much more than the kind you buy for your personal collection. For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Anyone heard of this? It seems to be along the lines of Clean Flicks but with some other loophole they are trying to use to edit movies. However, you can stream any movie for $1. So whether you edit the movie or not, why wouldn't you use them to rent a movie since they are cheaper than every streaming service out there?"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. Pretty sure it's been discussed in a thread somewhere, including the lawsuit against them by Disney, et.al.

Before posting I did a search for "VidAngel" and found nothing. I know it's been discussed tangentially but I couldn't find it.Originally posted by Pelado View PostPretty sure it's been discussed in a thread somewhere, including the lawsuit against them by Disney, et.al.
