She definitely has a ton of talent. She writes her own music, which is a lot more than most singers in her genre. I don't care for her music and my daughters don't really care for it either. It seems to be all the 20-30 something females going to this show, which checks out since she was huge back when they were teenagers.Originally posted by Clark Addison View PostI don't really follow Taylor's music but her songs come up in my daughter's playlists when I am driving her quite a bit and I don't dislike them, for the most part. Like her or not, she obviously has a ton of talent."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's easy, she developed songwriting talent at a young age. By the time she was sixteen, she was a far better songwriter than her peers (by peers I mean younger female country stars most of whom don't write a lick of their music.) In fact, she was on par with the better Nashville songwriters. Her looks didn't hurt.Originally posted by Non Sequitur View Post
I'm even more out of touch. How in the world is Taylor Swift a thing?
What she was writing spoke to teenage girls and their mothers. Her trajectory was that of a rocket. As she aged, she didn't rest on her laurels and she got even better at her craft.
I do not care much for country stars that don't write their music. The folks are merely karaoke singers on steroids. I have huge respect for talents like Swift who not only write their music but get up and perform it.

I think regardless of whether or not you like her must (I mostly don't but she does have some bangers), she absolutely worked hard for to build the career that she has made.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

I'd also point out she also made an extremely smart career move to move away from country music and into pop music. She wouldn't have been as big as she is now if she hadn't made that transition. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

71332437667__BD060F46-4067-41A0-A3EB-E43F002BAB17.jpegTaylor Swift is a Queen! I get it now, when I maybe didn’t before reading this thread. It’s not just catchy songs.
Goose and I did both nights in Denver and Goose Juju and I did the last night in SoFi. I have not been to a more fun event. I have not been to an event with any community or group that was as welcoming and loving and friendly. 4 hours of amazing. I’m figuring out how to get to Europe in the spring and the end of the Eras on 11/23/24 in Toronto!
Swiftie AF!
Get confident, stupid

I have the same experience at Smashing Pumpkins every time I go. I do like that Ryan Adams album that is all Taylor Swift covers, though..."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"

Taylor Swift tour is a fascinating case study in what lengths men will go to in order to keep their wives/girlfriends/daughters happy."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

In the beginning, I thought the title of this thread was wry and overblown. Today, Taylor Swift was named Time's Person of the Year, who by the magazine's description is the person who did the most to influence, for better or worse, the events of the year. So I stand corrected. Better her than, say, Putin or Hamas, I suppose.

This is going to make a great NYT Connections category: Josef Stalin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Taylor Swift.
