The characters James Gordon and Oswald Cobblepot are very well done.
I like his fiancee barbara, and the chick who is going to take out Falcone is dead Sexy.
"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. It has become apparent that a man can, within limits, follow his inclinations within the arms of the Church if he does so discreetly." - The Walking Drum

Speaking of DC comics, I have been put upon by Hulu to watch The Flash. It comes up on the queue after Gotham ends. I like it, although it's no Gotham. A couple things bug me about it:
1. If the Flash carried a knife and had no qualms with using it, he'd be unstoppable. He zips by the bad guys and is really bad at stopping them. He does stuff like pull their hat down over their eyes and runs away. I can't tell you how profoundly that bugs. Is it that hard to take their guns at least? I think he did it once in a scene, but forgot about that strategy I guess. This goes back to writing- I hate it when the writers create these barriers of common sense for their characters.
2. He's an insufferable dork for a super hero - much worse than Tobey McGuire's Spiderman. Granted, I have never read the Flash comics, but I doubt he's this lame.
On the plus side, it's still pretty entertaining because there's a lot of action and it has pretty good production values. I'll keep watching, but the clock is ticking on this one to get a little better.

My kids are superhero geeks and love The Flash.
Like you - I can't figure out if he's so dang fast, why he doesn't just take a bat along and knock each of the bad guys upside the head with it. Or if he doesn't want to hurt them, at least disarm them like you say. Or throw them into some handcuffs. ANYTHING! He is a super geek - with an over abundance of angst about right and wrong for a kid his age.
All that aside - some of the bad guys have been the kind that don't get taken down easily - like the guy who could clone himself or the guy who turned into poison gas.
But still...
My kids love the Green Arrow show too - which is on about the same time Flash is, I think.
I was really starting to get a little bored of Gotham until that last scene this week. I'm still not sure that's enough to keep watching.
The whole relationship with Barbara and Jim Gordon is just stupid. In one episode she loves him so much that she wants to take on his problems with Gotham as her own. Then in the very next episode she leaves Jim and runs to her lesbian lover because the Gotham stuff is just too much to handle. I have actually enjoyed this show as I think the penguin dude is great, but this whole side love interest thing with Barbara sucks so badly that it taints the whole show.

I haven't seen this last episode yet, but Barbara has bugged me from day 1. Stupidest character on the show- demanding to know about his police business? I don't care how hot your live-in tail is, you tell her to pound sand if she gets crazy like that. So far my biggest complaint about Jim- I just don't think he'd let her in on his biz like that.

Agreed on all accounts. The relationship taints the whole show for me.
The new season of The Newsroom has been awesome. I also enjoyed the first two, but recognize that they had problems. Those problems have been fixed for this year, and Sorkin has been at his best. Apparently he's planning this season to be his last for TV, which I find very disappointing. He writes good screenplays too, but there's a lot less room there for Sorkin-style dialog.

I am boycotting Newsroom until they show Emily Mortimers boobs. I have seen them previously in "Young Adam" and they are fabulous. Not quite Alexandra Daddorio levels but honestly they were pretty great.
