I totally agree. That squealing got old fast.

Aristides and I found it amusing that week in and out Adam would squeal some new twist to the style of the week, followed by the judges squeals of delight at his great peformance. For some reason, Adam could do the same thing week in week out and not be criticized, yet the blind guy (can't remember his name) who always played the piano was told to try something different. When he finally performed without the comfort of the piano, he got critiqued for abandoning his style.

I think Adam was the pick of the judges and producers. The finale seemed tailor made for him, and it was rather amusing that Kris won. The look on both of their faces was priceless. Kris looked legitimately shocked that he won and Adam had a look of disbelief that he did not.

FTR, I have never purchased a single album from any AI contestant, although there are a couple I wouldn't be adverse to buying.

Comparing a guy who has performed what, 15 songs, to Freddy Mercury? Yeah, that's a fair comparison.

It's the format that brings out the squeal. His strategy, which arguably worked pretty well, was to show off his range every week. The guy's got unbelievable range and talent--we'll see what he turns it into when instead of having to blow everyone away each week, he can show some nuance. It's way too early to declare Adam as any sort of star, but it's also way too early to write him off. Chris got away with his schtick for so long because he was the anti-Adam (and a really likeable guy and decent guitarist/musician); let's not kid ourselves into thinking he was the best talent (or even the third best talent).

I haven't heard anyone mention it, but does anyone doubt that Adam's homosexuality played a role in his defeat? Nice conservative married southern homeboy vs. glam-rock gay guy?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I think some of the reason he lost was because he is homosexual, but also, once Danny Gokey was gone, his votes went to Kris, who had a similar style. Personally, I think his screeching and the judges' blatant favoritism did him more harm than anything else.

Adam is a musical chameleon. He can do striking imitations but it comes off as an act and lacks authenticity. The musical theatre scene is littered with people that can sing every bit as good as he can but will never make it as pop stars. Adam has a better shot than these people because of AI but I doubt he will have the kind of success many are predicting.
