    Pacific Rim--Movie of the Summer!

    Alright, that thread title is a bit presumptuous but seriously, as far as big summer spectacle goes, I can't think of anything I'm more excited to see than Guillermo del Toro's latest. Giant robots vs. giant monsters? It's like my childhood imagination come to life. I'm grateful that del Toro finally jumped off the dead-end Hobbit train so he could work on his own stuff. Here's the trailer:

    Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

    None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

    This is the kind of thing we I have a strange reaction to seeing the director connected to it after watching the trailer. Same thing when I found Forster was directing World War Z.
    So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

      I saw the trailer last week and was completely underwhelmed. It will probably be a notch better than Transformers 3.

          I like several of Forster's movies, but the guy doesn't have much of an authorial stamp so I can't think of a movie I'd be really surprised to find his name on. This one, on the other hand, has del Toro written all over it. The guy has a bit of a Lovecraft obsession which comes out in almost all of his movies. Love it. Mark my words, this one's going to be awesome.

                LOL. del Toro has never let me down before. In my opinion, the man has never made a bad movie and has made at least one masterpiece (Pan's Labyrinth.)

                      There were some pretty widespread rumors at one point that del Toro was going to do an actual Portal movie.

                        Yeah, that's the trailer I saw in the theater some months back... the unmistakable voice of GlaDOS was the only thing I remember about it.

                        The movie looks totally unremarkable... this summer's The Green Lantern.

                            I agree that this movie seems exactly the same as two or three other mindless blockbusters every year, but Del Toro and its being an original IP (albeit a seemingly derivative one) have me at least curious. It might be interesting to see what happens when giant dumb CGI monster movie meets a decent director. Well I guess that was called Cloverfield. But this one looks dumber.
