  • This week's episode of the Mandalorian is by far my favorite. Bill Burr in Star Wars is fantastic.

        • There were a lot of tasty SW nerd morsels in there that I loved. That species that we haven't really seen since the Mos Eisley Cantina with the head of the devil. We got a glimpse at what a New Republic ship and droids look like, as well as a New Republic officer- played by none other than the guy who voices Anakin in the Clone Wars. We got a Gungun reference from Bill Burr. We learn that BB's character was a former elite Imperial sniper, to which Mando says, 'that's not saying much,' to which BB retorts 'I wasn't a Stormtrooper, wise ass!' Oh- and three directors from the series, including series runner Dave Filoni as New Republic X-Wing (!) pilots. Just a cool suspenseful little heist plot and world building for future episodes that was just fun.

And Bill Burr was perfect as the a-hole that was his character. It's especially great that he knew nothing about SW before starring in the series. I think Favreau should look to more people like that going forward.

I really liked it too. Fun series.

Haha. Yeah, I was almost getting a running commentary from the SW nerd I'm married to.

              • Rise of Skywalker looks like a disaster. With all of the Star Wars novels, comics, video games, etc., how did Disney botch the sequel trilogy story so badly? Why did they approach the movies piecemeal rather than having one continuous story in mind? Only 16 of 39 of the RT top critics have rated this movie at 2.5 stars and above (or equivalent rating). This movie will still make a decent amount of money, but Star Wars appears to have waded into DC Universe territory around the time when the Justice League movie was released. People care about it a lot less than they used to.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

For my part I am committing not to pay money to see it in theaters. Not that Disney will miss my money.

Don't be so sure. Disney reported just $28.1 billion in current assets as of September, and only $3.2 billion in investments. They need you to keep contributing.

Geez, it’s so wrong they are allowed to hoard so many assets. Even if they do comply with tax laws.

                      • Right now, Rise of Skywalker is 4 points above The Phantom Menace and well below The Attack of the Clones. It's amazing to me that The Phantom Menace somehow got 53% positive reviews. I would rather watch Ishtar or the 2016 Ghostbusters.

                        • Yesterday's Mandalorian was another fantastic episode.

Looking forward to the Rise of Skywalker tonight-- I don't expect it to one up The Last Jedi, but we'll see if JJ takes any cues from Rian Johnson and makes any bold moves.

                          • So I hear that a six-part Obi-Wan series is planned. Will that be for Disney+ also?

Yeah. Ewan McGregor is on board and its in the final stages before shooting. Other than that, we have a Rogue One prequel series w Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk (the tall Imperial security droid) and a second series of the Mandalorian. I expect there to be more coming based on the reception to this first season of the Mandalorian.
