  • I have a bad feeling about this.

S2E1 in the books! We thoroughly enjoyed it as a family.

Guest appearance of “My Man” Timothy Olyphant made this even more awesome!!

Fun episode. Loved the wild west motif.

      • Very important episode in the long game of The Mandalorian and other Disney+ spinoffs.

        Spoiler for Mando:
Boba Fett returning in official canon marks the end of decades-long speculation about the apparently idiotic and ignominious end of one of the most hyped up and then fizzled-out SW characters ever. He'll have a much bigger role in this season and then I'm guessing his own Disney+ series.

          • Welp, the Mandalorian is turning out to be the best Star Wars ever, right up with the Clone Wars.

At the Disney investors' meeting, they announced a ton of new stuff: Filoni/Favreau are getting 2 more series off the ground-- 'Ahsoka' and 'Rangers of the New Republic.'

Obi-Wan Kenobi will air as a 6-part mini series, set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen back, directed by Deborah Chow.

On top of that, the next actual feature film will be 'Rogue Squadron' in addition to the Taika Waititi feature film being written now. There is also a Japanimae series in development called Star Wars: Visions. Also, another series or mini series called 'A Droid Story' w C3PO/R2, and a series/mini series called 'Lando,' the new series w Diego Luna that is a Rogue One prequel called, "Andor," a Clone Wars spinoff, "the Bad Batch," and a thriller series called 'The Acolyte' that takes place during the High Republic (about 1000 years before the Phantom Menace at the height of the Republic, I guess.).

Lots of stuff going on-- pretty fun.

This past week's Mando episode was fantastic and I guess it's even better if you know a lot about the canonical Star Wars universe. That's been the biggest surprise so far is that they are threading the needle of having a series that is appealing to the masses but is also satisfying the diehard fans that know everything about the books/comics.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. • Disney seems to follow a pattern with everything lately: Find a cash cow and milk it until it goes more than dry. See: live action remakes of animated movies and the Star Wars movies. Hopefully they don't ruin the mini-series/tv shows by over doing things like they tend to do.

That's the benefit of having Dave Filoni-- George Lucas' protoge, as the lead writer/producer. That's a guy who knows the mind of George Lucas and the spirit of that universe. Favreau is a beast, as well. When Disney took over they wiped the slate clean of expanded universe canon. However, much of that is being brought back into canon piece by piece via shows like the Mandalorian. They are kind of copying the Marvel model of interlacing all the different storylines and characters to tell an overarching story.

lol. How profitable was the Marvel universe before Disney took over? Did you see Black Panther being one of the biggest movies of all time? I sure didn't.

                    • I'm starting to regret never having watched the clone wars animated series now. My kids loved it - so I saw an episode here and there. Just never watched the whole thing. Hearing more and more about The Mandolorian, I'm starting to wonder if I need to pause watching new episodes (I'm behind 3 right now) and finish up that series first.

                      Spoiler for Mando:
Weren't the old novels part of the old canon? Seems like I remember Lucas deciding that they all had to be consistent with each other, the content/story/tech/etc. all had to be reviewed by his team before a new Star Wars novel could be published? Am I remembering wrong?

Anyway - one of the older novels, "Tales from Jabba's Palace", talked about Boba Fett escaping the sarlac pit. So I'd just assumed he had escaped - didn't know it was a controversial topic.

Yes the old novels were. Now they are 'Galactic Legends' or something. But Filoni really is bringing that stuff back into canon, as we see with some of the stuff you mentioned. It makes sense that they had to start with a clean slate so that they could write storylines without having to hire a scribe and a dedicated historian. (They do now have a dedicated 'story group' for that express purpose, though).

And for what it's worth, DO go back and watch the Clone Wars. It starts off pretty shaky, as it seems they didn't know what tone they were going for-- the first season is basically for 8-12 year olds. By season 5, you're not sure if kids should be watching lol.
