    Hallelujah

If you haven't heard the Leonard Cohen version but are already a fan of Jeff Buckley's version, at least keep an open mind and reserve judgment until the last verse (starts at 5:00 on the Leonard Cohen video).

Both are brilliant in their own right, I think.

But there's something so raw in Cohen's version (he wrote the song) that just seems to me to fit the song so perfectly.

Leonard Cohen is awesome, I prefer his version as well. Waiting for the Miracle is another great song of his as well.

Buckley. Easy choice for me (and I heard COhen's version long before Buckley).

Lets just say in the modern music world dominated by singer/songwriters that Cohen makes a very good songwriter.
      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Cohen wrote it... like 68 versus or something like that. I'd like to hear the whole thing.

The rawness is definitely there in Cohen's version, but it's heavily overshadowed by the synth and the ridiculous female vocals, IMO. There're a reason Buckley's version is the one people imitate when it's covered.

BTW, I just spent the last 30 minutes down a YouTube vortex of hallelujah covers. Thanks for that.

Since the entire song is about an orgasm, I wonder if any of the 68 verses ends with the phrase "blew ya".

Buckley was imitating John Cale's version.

I hadn't realized that the video posted wasn't Cohen's original version. Here is the original studio version of the song, its a hundred times better than his remake.
