Loved it. I enjoyed the interesting mother-daughter relationship portrayed. And I even got teared up at one point.

Interesting. I have heard some not good things. Did you take your daughter?Originally posted by SuperGabers View PostLoved it. I enjoyed the interesting mother-daughter relationship portrayed. We enjoyed this (saw it on Saturday night w/ my 11 year-old daughter). We all laughed several times. The empowerment aspect really resonated with the young lass. I explained to her that it might be "the whitest movie ever made."
Not an epic film but the animation was spectacular and the story was interesting enough."Either evolution or intelligent design can account for the athlete, but neither can account for the sports fan." - Robert Brault

Viking's girls LOVED it. I find it interesting that male dominated films are more universally valued and appreciated by men and women alike, whereas one that is about a mother-daughter relationship does not achieve the same thing.
Prime example: I don't know of anyone who cannot connect to the emotional relationship seen between Simba and Mufasa in Lion King, girls included. But bring in a relationship between a mom and a daughter and the boys lose all interest.what I am is what I am and I does what I does.

It was sold out on Saturday when we tried to see it, so instead we just played the Brave version of Temple Run. I think we got the basic premise.

There is no shame in crying in a cartoon. I've done it plenty of times.Originally posted by SuperGabers View PostLoved it. I enjoyed the interesting mother-daughter relationship portrayed. And I even got teared up at one point. What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

Interesting premise - you give an example of father-son, but not one of mother-daughter. I'd be curious to hear an example of a mother-daughter focused film (that was a good film) that men/boys lose all interest in.Originally posted by HauteCoug View PostViking's girls LOVED it. As an aside - I think some of what draws people to the father-son films has nothing to do with the father-son relationship. It has everything to do with the father. And I would guess that you'd have a similar reaction to father-daughter focused films. I suspect some of the draw is the stereotypical notion that men are unemotional and don't care about relationships to the degree that women do - so when a father/man demonstrates emotion - it grabs people's attention.

I was thinking about this. A movie about 10th-century Scotland that is not "white" is kinda hard to imagine.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostThe empowerment aspect really resonated with the young lass. I explained to her that it might be "the whitest movie ever made."

Can the mods merge this thread with the original Brave thread?

Yeah isn't this just Mulan for white folks (but without the funny Eddie Murphy dragon)? Not that I object- I enjoy my Scottish ancestry being caricatured as much as the next guy...

I intended for Brave to be the example of the mother-daughter film. All of the men I've spoken to thus far have said that it was "good, but a girl movie."Originally posted by Eddie View PostInteresting premise - you give an example of father-son, but not one of mother-daughter.
