SLC Twilight Concert Series 2009

New lineup for 2013 being announced today. Grizzly Bear, The National, The Flaming Lips, Belle & Sebastian, MGMT, Empire of the Sun, Erykah Badu among the list. Oh, and also Kid Cudi, which will attract the entire campuses of the U and UVU.

I'd love to see The National. Man, killer lineup again. Are they charging again this year? Still just $5? How did that work out last year and did they limit attendance at all?

Charging again, yes. My wife and I got season tix last year and probably didn't need to, there was never a time I was aware of that they stopped letting people in. The crowds were a bit different in size and makeup (depending on the show) than the previous year, but honestly not by all that much. I'll probably go to 5 or 6 of this year's series.

August 7 - Local Native with Special Guest

August 14 - Beck and Future Islands

August 21 - De La Soul with Special Guest

August 28 - The Head and The Heart with Special Guest

I would like to see TV on the Radio, and it turns out that I'll be in SLC on the 17th! I might hit that show.

Also, I can't read the name of that band without singing "TV on the Radio without following it with you took a photograph of me."

That's a big-time lineup. Probably the best ever. Lauren Hill, Beck, Wu Tang, De La Soul? Tier 1 touring acts. TV, Local Natives, H&H are no slouches either. I admit I've never heard of Charles Bradley. Just noticed that Twin Shadow is opening for TV on the Radio. That'll be a great show.

My initial reaction was too harsh. I'd see TV On the Radio, Charles Bradley, whom I assume is Local Natives (nice job KUTV), Beck and Head and the Heart. Is the dude that cut off his member and then jumped off the building going to be well enough to play with Wu Tang? I guess I'd see that.

He's not in Wu Tang. He is a "Wu Affiliate" there are a bunch of groups produced by, mentored by, or otherwise affiliated w any of the 9 members of Wu Tang. There are tons of those groups- and probably well over 100 rappers, producers, and singers. So this guy is a rando in other words. Won't be performing. However, I've seen Wu Tang before and it was one of the best shows I'd ever seen.

I would definitely go see Lauryn Hill. She's liable to say something crazy, and it's 50/50 whether that something crazy involves her hating on all the white people in her audience. Guaranteed to be a good time.

Charles Bradley is pretty much the second coming of James Brown, with maybe a little less funk and a little more soul. For sure to be worth it. I would also try to see Beck and the Head and the Heart.
