SLC Twilight Concert Series 2009

Last year's lineup was great, but this year is a real doozy. So far they've confirmed Bon Iver, Jenny Lewis, Black Keys, M. Ward and Sonic Youth. And this is just July! The roster for August isn't out yet.

I was just talking to a friend in SLC who goes to the shows and says the only downside is that they are a total zoo. He claims he'd rather just pay to see each artist

My sister in law was at our house yesterday going off about how excited she was to go to Denver and see Ani Difranco, Tool, Janes Addiction and NIN in concert together. Also Widespread Panic,Incubus, Ben Harper and Relentless7, G.Love & Special Sauce, Gov't Mule, Buddy Guy, 3OH!3, Paolo Nutini, the Black Keys, John Butler, Gomez, the Wailers and India Arie are going to be there.

Its the Mile High Fest or something like that. I also saw this band was going ot be there: Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons

Yes, they are free shows downtown at the Gallivan Center. Not sure how long the sets are. Last year they had The Roots, Andrew Bird, Josh Ritter, De La Soul, Nada Surf, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Neko Case and Broken Social Scene.

I don't get the Roots. Now that they are locked into this Jimmy Fallon thing, how does that affect their ability to tour and record new stuff? It will likely wind up increasing their record sales, but how long can they be happy playing that intro to the show every day?

The downtown concert series (Twilight omitted on purpose) is awesome. They are a zoo but no more than any other show I have been to and you don't have to wait in line to get in. Don't expect to be able to sit down and enjoy the show, but it's hard to beat as an intimate atmosphere being outdoors. Small stage, beautiful Utah summer evenings. They get some great groups to perform and they play a decent set. Similar to anything you'd pay for in my experience. There are plenty of street vendors selling food and such. Take Trax to the Gallivan Center makes things much easier. Man, I am missing Utah something fierce right now.

I don't get the Roots either. At one point they were one of my favorite hip-hop bands out there. Every album through Things Fall Apart was very good. After that, I think the quality fell off substantially. It wasn't a BEP level drop off, but it still was pretty big. Do You Want More is a very good album with Silent Treatment being easily the best song they have ever recorded.

I used to really like De La Soul. I am going to have to find those CDs to put on my iPod. "Jenny lost her favorite penny, so I gave her a dollar, she kissed me and I hollered."

De La Soul is a great band. My favorite album is a toss up between De La Soul is Dead and Stakes is High.

Sweet! I'll definitely be seeing EITS and Typhoon. Also, Provo has started a free concert series as well on a parking garage rooftop I think by the Wells Fargo building. Nothing of the above caliber, but maybe worth checking out. I believe it's Friday nights.

No Age is dope, man. They opened for the Pixies a couple years ago. Just a 2 piece that rocks it like Amadeus.
