  • If you live in Ira Glass house, do you throw stones?

Is that subject line too obtuse? It seems there's a underlying CUF pressure to come up with witty thread titles. Hopefully Triplet approves.

I love good story telling and few do it better than Ira Glass. I'm a big This American Life fan and wanted to get some discussion on here to see if anybody else listens to the program and to swap favorite/recommended episodes.

Given our families propensity for being late to everything, we tend to travel late at night and I use the This American Life app on my phone to entertain myself while driving, as everyone else sleeps. So it was at 1 a.m. on our way to Salt Lake for Christmas, I pulled up one of my favorite holiday traditions and listened to David Sedaris' reading of The SantaLand Diaries. This is a 20 minute reading of Sedaris' experience of working a seasonal job as an elf in Macy's SantaLand in New York City.

Another episode that I listened to that night was called "Last Man Standing" and highlighted stories about people who felt compelled to standing true to something, even though everyone around them didn't. The Act 3 story is from an LDS girl who compares the First Vision to the story behind Fire in the Sky, which was a supposed UFO abduction in Arizona. I found this whole story fascinating.
I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

The episode I listened to right before this year's Christmas episode (which featured Santaland Diaries) was entitled "Nemeses" and had some fascinating stories about rivalries and feuds. The most powerful was about the ongoing culture war in present day Poland but the funniest was a story by comedian Chris Gethard about an encounter he had in college. It comes from his upcoming book [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Bad-Idea-About-Seriously-Stunningly/dp/0306820307"]Amazon.com: A Bad Idea I'm About to Do: True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure (9780306820304): Chris Gethard: Books@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/511aGvqv9JL.@@AMEPARAM@@511aGvqv9JL[/ame]. I literally fell off my bike while listening to it. (Mainly because of the stupid ice but the story was also hilarious.)
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

My wife listens to these all the time. We were cleaning our basement a couple of weeks ago and listened to the podcast about the petty tyrant. Pretty crazy to hear.

Interesting article. Glass seems like an idealist, a perfect stereotype for NPR. I wonder how he'll fare if he has to sell himself more.

Anyone catch the podcast from a couple of weeks ago about Forrest Carter? I had never heard of that story. I was blown away.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
