The other option if you are looking at saving some money is to get a 16 gig USB drive and get the one with the 4 gig hard drive. I went with the 4 gig for the lower cost and have been fine with using only a USB drive for any DLC.As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I could pretend to not be biased, or I could state it. The correlation between those that recommend xbox/ps3 and that own an xbox/ps3 is pretty close to 1 anyway. I simply stated facts, the PS3 has superior hardware and blu-ray. Both are advantages it has over the xbox. The xbox has advantages over the PS3.Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

We've had numerous xbox vs. PS3 debates on this board in the past. It used to be pretty evenly divided. That is, until the PS3's security was exposed as swiss cheese. Most of othe PS3 defenders have either shut up or bought an xbox.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I didn't realize I needed to list the xbox's advantages. I didn't notice the xbox proponents mentioning the PS3's advantages.Originally posted by falafel View PostWhich advantages you chose not to mention.

The debates revolved mainly around competition. PS3 had better competition. Now that we play on xbox, it is the new home of elite competition.Originally posted by falafel View PostWhich advantages you chose not to mention.

In all honesty I don't see a noticeable difference in dropped games, etc. For anyone asking the question, I usually just say get the console that your friends (or cooler friends) have.

There were other non-COD debates between the two consoles, featuring CMBF and Space Ghost on the PS3 side and DDD calling the PS3 an expensive toaster.Originally posted by filsdepac View PostThe debates revolved mainly around competition. That is very cool. Also the USB memory option is nice for dlc.Originally posted by Surfah View PostThat's what I did. Plus now you get 512 MB free cloud storage on Xbox Live.
My brother has a few game stores. He sometimes buys blown xbox consoles and refurbishes them for resale. He suggested that I buy the 4mb version and later but the 256mb hard drive on ebay for $50. But with cloud storage and USB memory, perhaps that isn't an issue.
The Xbox media center is also very useful, as it will stream media from my main computer directly to the tv, plus Netflix and hulu.
How much is xbox-live annually? I will probably get that console.

Also, I would hesitate to use a game console as a blueray player, when cheap bluray players can be had for $90 or less. I don't see a reason to put too much wear and tear on the game disc player.

First and foremost, it depends on what your friends have. Do they have an Xbox? Get an Xbox. Do they have a PS3? Get that. If neither of these matter to you, get a PS3. I've had extensive experience with both and I can confidently say that the PS3 is a better system. It's a great system with many perks. Let me elaborate by first responding to some posts in this thread.
and this...Here's a partial list of the xbox's advantages:
- greater user base
This is a matter of opinion, but there seemed to be a lot more kids on Xbox live. I don't want 12 year olds screaming in their mic on me in CoD because they die over and over
- lower price
The PS3 is actually the same price nowadays thanks to price cuts. A 160g PS3 is $249, while the 250g Xbox is $299. The 4gig Xbox is going to fill up way too fast so there really is no point in getting it since you cannot upgrade the hard drive unless you fork out another $99. Most people WILL need a bigger hard drive than 4gig. So the PS3 is actually cheaper, and you can upgrade the hard drive with just a standard SATA hard drive (aka a laptop harddrive) if you want. I had a friend that paid $70 for a 680gig harddrive for his PS3.
- more exclusives, and deals with publishers (aka. the month wait for map packs on COD)
Absolutely not. At launch, the PS3 had a terrible library of games. This certainly helped the Xbox sell so well at first since people couldn't justify spending $599 on a system with no games. Nowadays the PS3 has an incredibly strong exclusive library with games for all ages. Games like Gran Turismo 5, Little Big Planet 1-2, Ratchet and Clank, Modnation Racers, God of War 1-3, Motor Storm, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 1-3, Infamous, Resistance, Demons Souls, Killzone, etc.
And better deals with publishers? Maybe on Call of Duty (although I've seen the map packs come out at the same time for both systems since Black Ops). However on most other games like LA Noire, Mass Effect 2, Portal 2, Dead Space, Assassins Creed, and Mortal Kombat all had exclusive content that was ONLY on the PS3 platform (extra missions, characters, levels, etc.) Even at the Video Game awards, the "best Xbox game" category couldn't even field 4 exclusives for the console.
- better online play support
I don't know what this means but the online play is going to be the same over both systems. A common misconception is that Xbox live is "faster" and that the PS3 has "laggy online play" but this is simply not true. The servers that you play online with are provided by the COMPANIES that make the games, not Sony or Microsoft. Xbox live is just a glorified login service that you have to pay for despite NO other platform charging you for it. Yeah the fiasco with Sony getting hacked happened, but there were no credible reports of people's information getting stolen and used. The PS3 also has a great library of single player games so I didn't really notice. I also got two free games out of it, and they were extremely good games. Remember when consoles didn't have online play?
- kinect
This is great for kids and parties but nothing beyond that. I don't think motion gaming will catch on to any other crowd besides those two this generation.
And don't even get me started on RRoD. Pretty much every single person I know has had to either repair their Xbox or buy an entirely new system. The new "elite" models are also getting the red ring of death. The Xbox media center is also very useful, as it will stream media from my main computer directly to the tv, plus Netflix and hulu.
The PS3 does this as well, but it does it in a clearer format (the Xbox has to change file format in order to stream to your TV from your computer which takes away from the quality).
How much is xbox-live annually? I will probably get that console.
It is $60 a year. That's a new game every year
As mentioned above, the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player. Not only is it a Blu-Ray player, it's a good one. It'll play 3D movies if you have all the right stuff. Although this is not my thing, it can be something you can do down the road. A 3D Blu-Ray player on it's own retails for about $150-$200. This is great for doing both movies and Netflix.
I'm not like most people, but I prefer the PS3 controller since it's better for platforming games and things like those. However, the PS3 controllers come with rechargable lithium batteries that you can recharge without buying anything extra. The comparable basic Xbox controllers will require buying of AA batteries. If you absolutely love the reversed joysticks and triggers of the Xbox controller, there are ones available with similar design for the PS3 so there's really nothing missing here.
Sony has said that they will be supporting the PS3 for 10 years. So that means it will have another 4-5 years while rumors of a new Xbox being announced next year are already springing up with some people I know.
