  • PS3 or XBox 360

I know very little about gaming.y kids are bored with the wii and want to start playing games like Madden and modern warfare (wife is fighting it but it is inevitable). Oldest is going on 11. He says XBox 360 with kinect is the best. Some folks I work with tell me that kinect is gimmicky and that PS3 is better with similar games. I know a lot of you are informed on this stuff and come with solid opinions. What do you think? Xbox PS3 or would either be okay. I know there are probably a lot of opinions out there. Any of you with boys heading into their teen years that have any advice?

    Thanks!

Your son is right, Xbox baby.

Kind of a bad time to buy a system, wii and Xbox are on the verge of new systems.

Maybe I'll wait then. When does new Xbox come out?

I agree. I'd wait to buy if you can. Even if you go with one of the current units you will be able to get it cheaper.

One son has an XBox 360 the other has a PS3. Both are happy. They both argue over theirs being better than the other.... whatever.

I do like that the PS3 doesn't charge anything for online gaming... the XBox does... it's not that much, but to a 14 year old that has to pay it himself... it kinda matters.

Don't wait. there will be no new xbox console hardware until late 2012 at the very earliest, more likely late 2013. The next gen console is definitely happening, but they aren't even at proto phase yet. In the meantime, look for a broader expansion of Kinect titles and the online offerings via xbox live.

Yes, that is the main reason I bought a PS3. In fact, I still don't have a game for it. Maybe this christmas I should get one of those. Suggestions?

                    I've purchased 3 Xboxes and 1 PS3. I recommend the Xbox.

Maybe, but I will tell you what, now that we have a nice HD television, I recently picked up Criterion cuts of Rushmore, Dazed and Confused, and they looking absolutely fantastic. These are films that I like to revisit from time to time, and I have to say, the current setup is very cinematic. So there is a convenience to owning a beloved film on Blu-ray that may very well be something akin to owning a vinyl LP. It is a nice format with a few perks that aren't currently available in streaming formats. That might be enough to buy it some time.

I don't have much experience w the ps3, but I love the xbox360. It's pretty indispensable in my home entertainment setup w/ xbox live streaming my netflix/hulu+ and the games and what not. Wii is basically the Legend of Zelda entertainment system right now in my livingroom.

I won't hesitate to upgrade to the next level xbox when it comes out. And now you can get a great deal on an xbox, since they are still pushing em out for another year or so before the switchover.

PS3, in terms of hardware between the two systems, the PS3 handily beats the XBox, though both systems are dwarfed by PCs. The blu-ray is a plus, but all physically backed media is going the way of the 8-track, but by the time that happens, the next gen consoles will be out. In the meantime, the PS3 is a good blu-ray player.

Anyone have the 4gb, is that enough or is the 250gb xBox really better. 246 more gb for only $100 seems like a deal but only if it is necessary.

4gb fills up fast. Get the bigger HD.
