You could watch another fave....Conan on Tonight......

You whiffed. No big deal. It was an awful show.

Big Bang Theory is doing pretty well, however. It also features Kaley Cuoco. The great thing about Community finally dying a merciful death is that Alison Brie has more time to consider scripts for R-rated movies.

I really want to like Up All Night. I really like Applegate and Arnett. The show is nice. But it is not LOL funny. It is amusing. You will get several smiles throughout the show. It hasn't been enough for me to keep watching though. Hopefully it will continue to develop and let its actors let loose.
I agree with both of these thoughts. Community had some great episodes. The first paintball episode was hilarious. But really, most if not all of the characters have become really annoying.

How in the world does Whitney survive? Even the commercials for that show bug me. It is awful.

Really not too impressed with many of the shows this year. There are only 3 shows that I will probably watch out of the whole batch:

Person of Interest - Over the top, but interesting premise. Can be pretty intense as well.

Homeland - There are some holes, but a very good, slow burn type of drama.

Suburgatory - Uneven but it has some very funny parts.

Undecided on 'Once Upon a Time'...it is clever, but I can't see how it is sustainable.

Other shows that I tried at least one episode but for whatever reason, stopped watching: 2 Broke Girls, Up All Night, Terra Nova, Whitney

Maybe his sense of humor doesnt appeal to the masses yet.
Loved him both on AD and 30 Rock. Maybe you are right about him not being a lead.

Big Bang is nothing like the dreadful 2.5 Men. It is usually pretty funny.

After trying out a few of the new dramas, like Terra Nova and Once Upon a Time, I'm left to conclude that these shows might be pretty good if they were on AMC or HBO. maybe it's time to stop watching the networks altogether.

I can't get the appeal of Big Bang. There probably always has been and always will be a big divide between many of the mass-audience comedies like Big Bang and whatever Adam Sandler just shat out and the more cultishly-adored niche comedies like Community, Arrested and Party Down. I tend to be in the minority that gravitates toward the latter.

I shouldn't fault people for what they find funny, but I do.

On a separate note, I never actually saw Conan on the Tonight Show. Guess I was with the masses on that one (assuming the masses were all watching Stewart/Colbert instead.)

Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I think you are jumping to conclusions. i don't like most Adam Sandler movies and I love AD, Happy Endings, etc.

It was obvious to me from the start that Community was going to fail. My posts speak for themselves. I cited before and will cite again...Chevy Chase was a major liability. Also, Shirley. Both of those characters consumed too much storyline and have very little redeeming qualities...they arent funny, they aren't likeable, they aren't much of anything other than space w.a.s.t.e.rs. My guess is that Community ultimately failed probably for the same reason the Office started to suck. After awhile, the stuff happening on Community wouldnt really happen at a community college, so it became a bit of a farce.

Also, Stewart/Colbert are funny, but that also isnt relevant. The Conan/Leno debate (which wound up not being much of a debate) was whether Conan and his style was suited for the Tonight slot. I said it was not. Many disagreed. res ipsa, my friend....res ipsa.

While I don't like Community, I'm not sure I would call it a failure. Every show ends eventually. This show has lasted 3 seasons (including the current season - has it been canceled immediately or just not renewed?). I would reserve the term "failure" for shows that don't run a full season, or at least that don't get an order for a second season. Community is not in the same category as the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

Good point. My personal preference would be to end all shows after their 3rd season. Except for Seinfeld. It kept getting better.

Agree. It isn't a total failure. It also managed to produce some memorable moments, my favorite of which is the ongoing Troy/Ahbed meme that closes the episodes. But it isn't shocking that it was pulled. At least not to me.

What is considered a successful run on TV? Community is on it 3rd season. So the fact that they are now considering pulling the plug makes it bad? AD only made 3 seasons. Terriers was one of the best shows on tv and it only made one season. The Office is crap now and it is still going strong.

I think british tv has it right, with keeping the seasons short (6 - 8) episodes for shorter shows. Sometimes only 3 or 4 episodes for dramas. I think we try and get too much out of too little with having a season that has something like 24 shows.

I don't think there is any basis of comparison between The Office and Community, especially in terms of "realism." Community is and was from the start, more of a meta-commentary on sitcoms, far more analogous to Arrested Development and Soap than Office and Modern Family. Actually, noting your affection for AD, I'm surprised you haven't overcome your distaste for Chevy Chase and given it more of a chance.

Also, let there be no misunderstanding, it doesn't take any great skill to predict that certain shows are going to go off the air (were you somehow persecuted for your Conan predictions?), especially quirky niche comedies. I knew Community was doomed from about the third episode and I'm actually pretty astonished that they're still filming all of season 3. I'm just saying that its loss is something to be mourned.

A fellow Terriers fan! Awesome. I'm totally with you on the shorter seasons and shorter overall lifespan of shows. 3-4 seasons of greatness is better than staying on the air for 4 more years of mediocrity.
