NOt at all.... I called for the mixes to be done by next Friday. Feel free to ask questions about de-tagging, uploading, etc.

OK, I've got the official CUF Mix Tape web site up and running. Commando has already sent me a couple of mixes, but I've only had enough time to put up one of them.

As you can probably guess, each mix will live in its own directory space. There will be a playlist link "Mix for {nickname}" which will point to a specific directory as assigned by Commando. So, when your mix is available... you will find a playlist link listed with your name on it.

Also (just fyi), Commando is sending me links to (zip) files and mentions only who they are intended for... so I have no idea who is responsible for compiling each of the mixes; that secret is safe with Commando.

Some notes....

Titles are strongly encouraged. If you don't include a title for your mix, then you'll end up with a mix title such as "UntitledNN"... embarrassing! Cover art is also encouraged. To specify a title and a cover with your mix, then include the files "title.txt" and "cover.jpg" (respectively) in with your zip file. That'd be great. Thanks in advance.

Also, mp3 files only please. Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart all have sections on their retail web sites titled "MP3 Players" ... not "WMA Players". I'll convert as necessary, but converted sound quality is not guaranteed. Sorry!

Very cool site, SG. I've spent some time on it today and I'll be spending a lot more time on it, for sure.

One quick note: On the "Diary of a Divorce" album, tracks 3 (engaged) and 4 (matrimony) are the same song. Not sure if that was an upload error, a download error, or intentional.

I've looked at a few of the mixes, and one person in particular is practically screaming which one is his.

It's not immediately obvious how to download the files, nor it is all that convenient to do... sorry about that. The advantage of the software that is being employed on cufmixtapes.com is that the content is primarily accessed via playlists and is streamable, e.g. you don't necessarily have to download the files to listen to them. But if you want to physically download the files, then drill down to the album folder and click on the "[fetch]" links listed next to each of the album tracks. (Note: your mix loads the music files in the Absurdly Wordly album.)

BTW, [Fetch] merely sends me to a stream of the individual song--it doesn't give me the option to download the mp3.

Well, that may be true... depending on what helper applications you have config'd for your browser. The "[fetch]" links are targeted directly to the mp3 source files; every other action builds a m3u playlist file which is handed back to the client. What the client does with m3u and mp3 files probably varies wildly. For my own setup (Chrome on Ubuntu), mp3 files are downloaded and saved, whereas m3u files are handed off to VLC. YMMV.

Well my "setup" (firefox on Windows) streams them through quicktime or creates a m3u playlist for windows media. Any suggestions as to a good add on that will allow me to download them?

So whoever made the Untitled mix for Tick has been listening to some WAA.

Right click on the "[fetch]" link to bring up a context sensitive pop-up menu, then select "Save target as..." (or "Save as..."). Then select a target directory. Should work?
