I've watched a few more episodes (it was that damned Daenerys Targaryen that hooked me). The one thing I can't understand is (being the Mormon that I am) is why don't these people wear underwear? Every sex scene has a mandatory rushed disrobing of medieval style clothing (i.e. tons of stupid lacing that just frustrates everyone) but they're all going commando! I mean, I get that it's fantasy but seriously, in what dimension does EVERYONE go commando? (cue Clack)
Not everyone.

My 17 year old daughter is an aspiring author. She's been world building and outlining her story for years. I've encouraged her to document all her plot ideas, characters, settings, etc... She is also an avid fan of GoT and GRRM. Turns out that she has been sharing her story ideas with GRRM and he has been reading/critiquing her story ideas and giving her tips and advice. She's shared her google drive account with him and emails him periodically. She told me that he had one rule, no questions about future plot lines or characters' lineage form GoT. As an aside, he told her that he finds her ideas very intriguing and her main plot device a really good idea he wished he'd had.
So, a huge +1 to GRRM for mentoring/fostering the next generation of story writers. Also, basically my daughter is the reason it's taking GRRM so long to write the next books... I'm also pretty damn proud of her.
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

Wait until his next book comes out and your daughter's plot device is featured front and center.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I'm pretty damn proud of her, too! Now that's how you drop a brag, folks!

Yeah, I'll be super mad and ineffectually rage on the internet somewhere...

Wow, that's really cool. Major props to GRRM.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

That's pretty cool. Mentoring is a special thing. Someone can be a great mentor to one pupil and have no effect on another. I'm glad your daughter took the risk to reach out to him. So many kids are risk-averse these days that they'd never even try.
