You're everything that's wrong with this country, hair metal, not jazz, is the only true American art form. Hair metal springs from that same well of genius, innovation and freedom whence came monster trucks and zubaz pants, the other two purely American art forms.

And Motley Crüe is the unchallenged master of the form. To disrespect them is to piss on the flag and spit in the face of each and everyone of our service men and women. In short, to dis the Crüe is to dis America. Hater.

Plus I'm pretty sure the french or the belgians came up with jazz. It stinks of the frank.

Midnight Train to Georgia is a worthy song.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

No offense, and I know this isn't PC, but that comment sounded so stiff white guy like that I had to chuckle.

the irony of this is that Gladys Knight is now an adherant of the uber white man's religion.

The end result of the thread should be a nice must-have list of 70s tunes.
                      1. The Who- Baba O'Riley
                      2. Zeppelin- Over the Hills and Far Away
                      3. Aerosmith- Sweet Emotion
                      4. Derek and the Dominos- Layla (the real 70s version, not the crappy unplugged version of the 90s)
                      5. Black Sabbath- Paranoid (I recommend the live version with Randy Rhoads on guitar, you can find it on Ozzie's greatest hits album "The Ozzman Cometh")
                      6. Steely Dan- Do it Again.
                      7. Ted Nugent- Stranglehold
                      8. Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here
                      9. James Taylor- Fire and Rain
                      10. Boston- More than a Feeling.

Honorable mention- Spill the Wine from Eric Burdon and War.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Well, considering Coltrane is worm food and Neil is still nominally in the "With Us" category I'm going with Neil. Although I had to think about it for a while.

I changed my mind. No offense to Three Dog Night, but I'm dumping Jeremiah for Layla.

edit: darnit. I just noticed CMB already claimed it. well, poop.
of course he tried to steal my Boston, so I guess it's all good.

If you had ever suffered a drug addiction then you'd see the value of Fire and Rain. Then again, neither have I but I still like the song. It's the one song that kind of sticks out on my list.

I would have put "Won't Get Fooled Again" from the Who, but I already had Baba O'Riley on my list.

Really nice essay in The Atlantic about Born to Run turning 40 & what that song means for understanding the 70s.
