Here's the text of the email I got this morning from Netflix:

    Dear Green Lantern,

It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs.

This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster.

While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.

We're constantly improving our streaming selection. We've recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we've added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS.

We value you as a member, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get your movies & TV shows.

    Respectfully,

    The Netflix Team
Man, how many boneheaded moves have they made? Was Qwikster just a smokescreen to get everyone riled up and stop focusing on the price change or did this whole thing really just blow up in their faces?
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

Absolutely blew up in their faces. You don't do something stupid, then try to distract from that by doing something else idiotic. Unless you don't care how it impacts your bottom line.

Ouch. 800K canceled, the CEO better bring the snacks to the next BOD meeting, maybe an edible arrangement.

This whole thing is truly bizarre. You have a company that is innovative and doing great things, its customers are happy, its bringing in big money...and over the course of 3 months, its like the entire upper management just went insane. I can't figure it out.

I understand raising the prices...but doubling it? Strange. And then when that blows up in their face, they try to rename part of their company's business? Seriously strange stuff.

They'll be fine. They appear to be learning from their mistakes. And the bottom line is nobody else is even close when it comes to infrastructure and the ability to deliver content streaming or otherwise. I say this as a stockholder so maybe I am being overly optimistic ... but I'm viewing recent events as an opportunity to add to my position.

Any chance Amazon Prime catches up and gives Netflix a run for their money? They are way behind now, but they are adding new content all the time.

Anything is possible. But I just look at all the devices with NetFlix embedded, etc. Amazon can get all the content I want, but if I can turn on my TV/DVD Player/ XBox 360, etc. and just choose NetFlix and start up a movie ...

If the exec team was reacting differently I might feel otherwise, but I think they are learning from their mistakes and will right the ship.

What does Amazon Prime's lineup look like now? I tried it a few months ago and wasn't particularly impressed.

The paid Amazon lineup, on the other hand, is mind boggling. They have very nearly EVERYTHING available (for a price/title for 24 hrs). Much of it is in HD.

I find myself struggling to find interesting things on Netflix, but websites like instantwatch.com really help the search. Right now my wife and I are getting caught up with Mad Men. Previously she was hooked on The Tudors and Coupling.

True, but my guess is that networks and studios will do this on their own more and more. HBO to Go is great. NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox already stream most of their shows. The wave of the future is online content and Nexflixx was smart and got a big head start on everyone. But so did AOL.

                          These are on Amazon Prime.

NetFlix has way more. My problem is that I am overwhelmed by all I want to watch.

I WISH I could buy HBO to GO directly without buying the cable channel as well (to get HBO I have to upgrade to Digital Cable so it would cost ~$30/mo more than I currently pay for basic).

I also wish NBC, ABC, CBS, etc allowed streaming to Roku, etc. Currently they stream only to computers, similar to Hulu. I am sure they block it because they want to protect the local affiliates.

I think we watched Coupling on Amazon Prime. They had a great set of BBC programming, but were somewhat weak otherwise when compared to Netflix.

I agree on the lacking of time to watch. Once I started searching for netflix streams online rather than through the bad search functions on Wii and Roku I discovered the huge amount of content they actually have.

My kids could watch Mythbusters or Phineas and Ferb all day long.
