Geesh... we were excited to catch the touring show when it came through LA, but tickets are about $200 a pop after fees and taxes. I wouldn't even be able to enjoy the show knowing that I paid $200 for the ticket. And $600 for the family? That is the price of two long weekend camping trips to a national park. That is the price of our next video game system plus a few games. That is half the price of a decent computer. That is the price of a week-long science field trip to Catalina for Little Robin. That is the price of TWO trips up to the Champagne Room with Fifi. There MUST be a cheaper way to see a maggot-infested scrotum (and I've heard it's fake).

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Good call choosing for something more lasting as opposed to being only entertained for an evening.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Church buys ad space in "Book of Mormon" musical playbill. I like the moxy.

I'm pretty sure she used to be in my ward growing up. Cool.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I think this is like s lot of the PR the church does. It is less about conveying a message to non-Mormons than it is about "rallying the base" so to speak. The main impact of the add will be among the faithful, not people who attend the play. Not that there is anything wrong with that, the "I'm a Mormon" campaign is more or less the same thing, IMO.
Yes! I know she's been on other Mormon ads before, I think they are still in the area.

I disagree a bit, but understand what you are saying. I think a few people that attend the musical might have some interest to read the book. A few of those might even order one and a few of those will start to read the book and might get as far as the Isaiah chapters before quitting.
