  • Your Top 5 movies

I know this is being discussed in another thread but I would like a dedicated one I can search for in the future.

What are your top 5 favorite movies?

    Random order for me:
    • No Country For Old Men
    • Heat
    • Godfather 1&2 (cheating. I know)
    • Good Will Hunting
    ....
    • Bourne Identity or Caddyshack. These are nowhere near the caliber of the top 4, but I love rewatching both of these.

I don't see a ton of movies, so take that into consideration.

    1. What About Bob?
    2. True West
    3. The Matrix
    4. Forrest Gump
    5. LOTR

Honorable mention: Hunt For Red October, Braveheart, Toy Story, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

Impossible for me to say my top 5 now. However in the 90's when I was the resident movie critic on our myfamily.com site (anyone remember that one?), my list was:

        Shawshank Redemption
        Lion King
        Quiz Show
        A Perfect World
        Unforgiven

Of these, probably Shawshank and Lion King would remain in any top ever movie list of mine. The other three are still great, but they were probably more important to me back then due to different life circumstances, etc.

I have no recollection of "A Perfect World". It wasn't during my mission and it's not rated R, so I don't know how I missed that one.

I've never seen Downfall. Is that the Hitler movie all the memes are made from?

There Will be Blood was one of my honorable mentions along with Goodfellas and Almost Famous.

No idea what my 'top 5 of all time' are. I've seen way too many movies. I could name 5 movies that I'd drop everything to watch, though...

Good Will Hunting is one of my faves. Watched it with the wife a couple of days ago.

I am terrible with favorites. I always have a hard time with password recovery questions because I don't have favorites. I am also not much of a movie guy. So here is a list of my top 5 today which may change at any time. These are in no particular order.

                        Dr. Strangelove
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
                        O Brother, Where Art Thou
                        To Kill a Mockingbird
                        Wall-E

                        Honorable Mention:
                        Fletch
                        Termors

Downfall is fantastic. A very worthy contender. And yes, the source of the video memes.

I don't think it's widely known. I loved the acting and story. I'm not sure how it's held up thought. I haven't seen it since my Provo days.

Oh yeah. Beautiful (and I mean beautiful) score. Tight concise plot. LOL and poignant moments. What's not to love?

Depends on my mood, and there are probably twenty that could vie for my top five. But at the moment, I'll go with:

                              Crimes and Misdemeanors
                              Patton
                              Ordinary People
                              Diva
                              Shawshank

And an honorable mention to Goldfinger. My parents took me to see it when I was twelve, having no idea what the movie was about, and they were mortified as the movie unfolded. When Shirley Eaton turned onto her back and gave Bond the "come hither" look, I became a man that day my friends. By no means a top five movie, and yet that cinematic experience remains unsurpassed.
