Meh. Big letdown for me. Lousy writing, lousy acting, and almost zero suspense. I suppose the hillbilly mafia angle and the setting were kind of interesting.

To me it was all very authentic. It doesn't have the clever dialogue of Justified (which inhabits a similar world, and I seem to remember you are a fan of) but I have been around some of these folks and it seemed pretty real, even if that might have made it dull at times.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostMeh. I remember that Cojo (sp?) said she was worst dressed because her dress was a Bay Watch swimsuit with a skirt sown in. Not sure how that is a negative.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThe most remarkable thing about Winter's Bone is still how hot Jennifer Lawrence looked at the Oscars compared to the movie. Sheesh.

I saw this last night and I liked the movie. My only problem was I couldn't figure out who everyone was. Who was the blond with the baby and the truck? friend? Sister? cousin?
Who was the guy in the blue truck that took her to the blown up house where the weeds were "chin deep"?"Be a philosopher. A man can compromise to gain a point. OK, it's been awhile since I have seen it, but I believe the blond with the baby was her sister who got pregnant, married and moved out. The guy in the blue truck was her uncle, her missing dad's brother. At least, that's what I remember. It's been a couple of months.Originally posted by Mormon Red Death View PostI saw this last night and I liked the movie. My only problem was I couldn't figure out who everyone was. I really liked the movie. I grew up in a rural area and my best friend had a crack-addict mom. The movie reminded me a lot of her and some of the crap she had to deal with at a young age and some of the things and types of people I glimpsed hanging out at her house as a kid. (What were my parents thinking? Seriously, looking back, how could they let me hang out over there?)What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

You know the guy that offered to take in her brother.Originally posted by marsupial View PostOK, it's been awhile since I have seen it, but I believe the blond with the baby was her sister who got pregnant, married and moved out. Finally watched this. Big giant "meh" from me. Great depiction of that culture and some awesome characters (right down to the meth addict chick who helped steal the ATM in Breaking Bad) but the story felt so disjointed that I never really found myself drawn into the plot.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
