• My favorite guitar solo ever

First of all, this is my absolute favorite song.

Maybe it's not objectively the greatest guitar solo ever (although many people have called it one of the greatest) but with apologies to Clapton, Hendrix, Gilmour, and Page, I think it's in the argument.

This makes me wish Prince did rock instead of pop and whatever else it is that he does.

I don't think it's out of bounds to say he's the greatest rock/pop musician of our generation, if you go by talent rather than hype (yeah, I'm referring to Michael Jackson).
If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.

Prince is an amazing guitarist. He is extremely underrated because of the pop style he usually plays. When I was learning guitar as a kid my teacher talked a lot about Prince. I didn't get it until I heard "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad." That outro solo blew me away. I love his exit at this Hall of Fame performance. Throwing his guitar in the air and struttin of the stage while everyone else just stands there looking very white and and very old. Prince is badass. His guitar tone is amazing.

I've tried to rank my top 10 favorite guitar solos in the past. It is an always changing list as I'm exposed to new genres and new guitarists. I won't attempt it tonight. I have recently discovered Roy Buchanan. Amazing tone and amazing guitarist. There are some youtube clips of his Austin City Limits appearance in 1976 that leave me spellbound.

Today I was listening to Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne" and remembered how great Larry Carlton's parts were in that song. Mick Ronson is under appreciated in my opinion as well.

I posted this clip in the "youtube HOF thread." It is awesome.

Prince claims he had never heard this song before and only wanted to play it because he loves Tom Petty. Harrison's wife didn't want him as part of the group, because it was only supposed to be friends of George. She relented, and I guess the family loved it.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Prince has always been an amazing guitarist. When I was in junior high he was my favorite musician and I took a ton of grief for that, as it was in the cock rock mullet era. But whenever I had someone who was particularly harsh about him I would play the solo from Let's Go Crazy without telling them who it was or playing the rest of the song. That always impressed them and changed a few minds some even thought it was almost as good as Whitesnake.

Prince is the greatest musician of our generation without question in my mind. He is also one of the strangest people living.

I don't know if I'd call him underrated, because anyone who knows anything understands what an incredible player he is, but definitely under appreciated by those who let their preconceived notions about what prince is prevent them from knowing he shreds.

OK, I have to severely preface this by saying that I'm one of those hoity-toity arrogant people who strongly differentiates between something being "good" and "liking it." I don't tie the two together. One should be able to appreciate something as being good without necessarily liking it (eg. my feelings for Nirvana), or really enjoying something that's not that good. In this case you said "favorite," which means the guitar solo that I like the most, not the one that I think is "the best" from a technical or musical angle. This is the one guitar solo that I like the best because it makes me happy every time I hear it, and I find myself always wanting to rewind it and hear it again. I've heard it hundreds of times and I never stop enjoying hearing it. So with that said, here it is:

I find this hard to believe. The structure of his solo echoed the original from the white album too often to be just chance.

There is no question it is a fantastic solo. Prince is unquestionably a great player.
PLesa excuse the tpyos.

You're in a safe place, tim. Your prefaces are unnecessary; nobody will pass judment against you in a thread about prince.

I'll go with Tony Iommi in War Pig,

From about 3:20 to 4:20(Whats Up!) and finishes

Put on top of that incredible drums and this is really one of my top 50 songs of all time.

This one song has two of my favorite solos. David Gilmour's guitar can say twice as much with half the notes.

I'll go with the Kinks.

I also like Slash's solo at the beginning of Sweet Child of Mine, though I can't stand the song. Like at all.
