Shockingly there doesn't appear to be a thread for this one yet. Read a review of it today...total rave. Nolan may save the summer yet again.

They are spending major bucks on the thing. Apparently the filming alone cost $160mm.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostI wonder what they've spent on advertising for this one. I think I see a commercial for Inception no fewer than 3 times a day. Looks very interesting and I can't wait to see it.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I'm not reading any reviews and I change the channel whenever an ad comes on. I haven't seen a trailer since the first teaser. Nolan has the benefit of the doubt so I'd rather know as little as possible going in. With the way we get bombarded with advertising for every one of the big blockbusters, it seems like the way to go. Anyone else doing the same?Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...
None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.
I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

What is some of his work? I ask because I have no idea who he is.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostI love Nolan's work. Haven't seen any of them. Of course, that really doesn't mean much because I doubt I could name the director of any of my favorite films.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostHe's only directed 6 commercial movies in his life:
Memento
Insomnia
Batman Begins
The Prestige (My favorite)
The Dark Knight
Inception
Not a dog in the bunch.
Perhaps folks could tell me the appeal of a movie when it comes to direction? It's already known here that I only watch a movie for pure escapism and all movies that I like pretty much look the same to me."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Not sure if you purposely omitted his debut feature FOLLOWING but it played the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and put him on the map to make MEMENTO. It's an excellent little film about a writer who follows strangers around to get ideas for stories and ends up following a burglar. Things get interesting from there and the film has many of the touchstone elements of his later work (e.g. fragmented chronology, noir flourishes, etc.) Worth checking out if you like his films.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostHe's only directed 6 commercial movies in his life:

Definitely Memento-esque.Originally posted by Green Lantern View PostNot sure if you purposely omitted his debut feature FOLLOWING but it played the Sundance Film Festival in 1999 and put him on the map to make MEMENTO. And that says a lot for the director's clout. The major studios are usually so timid that they will back even the lamest film proposal (MARMADUKE anyone?) that's based on an existing property before pursuing an original screenplay. "Pre-awareness" is the watchword and so they'll stoop to making movies based on board games (MONOPOLY and BATTLESHIP are both coming soon) just because they think that it will cost them fewer marketing dollars since the potential audiences are already familiar with the title. Whatever you think of INCEPTION and AVATAR, it's nice that some of the big name directors are interested in pursuing original stories.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThey are spending major bucks on the thing. From what I've heard - even from those who loved it - Avatar was just MSNBC talking points.Originally posted by Green Lantern View PostAnd that says a lot for the director's clout.
