  • Albums you never tire of....

Just to play off the songs thread, I have a list of albums that I can listen to straight through and I never, ever get tired of hearing them. The difference with an album as opposed to a song is that an album not only has to have great songs, but the songs have to flow together from one to the next. The songs usually have to provide enough diversity of sound so the album doesn't just sound like the same song over and over again (this is why I dislike The Joshua Tree, but that is another thread).

Anyway, here is my list of albums that I never get tired of hearing:

    1. OK Computer - Radiohead (by far my favorite album of all time)
    2. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco (perhaps the best album from a pure sound perspective; this one became a whole new experience when I listened to it using head phones)
    3. Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin (diversity in song abound as well as awesome lyrics, fabulous guitar riffs, and beautiful melodies)
    4. Kid A - Radiohead (cool album but not quite up to par with OKC since it seems they were trying way too hard; very different album with headphones as well)
    5. The Hour of Bewilderbeast - Badly Drawn Boy (very cool sounds in a lot of these songs; having a song titled "Pissing in the Wind" also is very cool)
    6. Dulcinea - Toad the Wet Sprocket (I have no idea why this one is on here other than I love listening to this album on Saturday morning while making breakfast)
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Limeliters - Our Men is San Fransico
Simon and Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence
    Kings Singers - Annie Laurie

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II (Heartbreaker and Living Loving Maid should ALWAYS be played back to back. 2 songs were never so made for each other on an album.)
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
      Johnny Cash - Unchained

The Wallflowers - Bringing Down the Horse.
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Music albums you never tire of

I was tempted to add this to the Music you never tire of thread, but it's enough different to warrant its own thread. I don't even know if the rest of you even listen to albums anymore, but I still do and there are a few that I enjoy every time I listen to them.

Back in the 60's an album had whatever the artist could fit onto one LP record, so it was between 30 and 45 minutes in length and had to be turned to the other side half-way through. Most of the stuff in my collection would be categorized as greatest hits albums, but there are a few that were just a collection of songs that go well together.

Every once in a while I just don't feel like listening to most of my albums, so these are the ones that I always go to because I always like to listen to them:

The first two albums by Santana: Santana and Santana Abraxas. Those two always work when I don't feel like listening to anything else.

Jefferson Airplane After Bathing at Baxter's. I used to check out that record from the library regularly and always loved it, even though it was never a great seller. You have to listen to the whole thing in order.

          Jethro Tull Aqualung.

Janis Joplin Cheap Thrills. This is one that I had heard when it first came out, but only picked up recently for my own.

Jim Croce Photographs & Memories. This is a greatest hits album and I can't explain why it's on this list, but it's one that I always enjoy.

I put together my own greatest hits "album" of songs from Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 that is also in this category of albums that I always enjoy listening to. It includes what I think should go in one greatest hits album as opposed to what you can get if you buy one of their several different greatest hits collections.

I still can't explain why this group always puts me in a good mood when a lot of other music won't.

This would basically be the same as my "favorites" list.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

lol. You know that old Sesame Street game they used to play where they'd sing "one of these things is not like the others..."?

                            In no particular order:

Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On
                            David Bowie - Hunky Dory
The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers
Modest Mouse - The Moon and Antarctica
Mogwai - Come On Die Young
My Bloody Valentine - Isn't Anything
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
                            Talk Talk - Laughing Stock

                            * I listen to audio that I ripped from live DVDs almost more than any of the albums listed above. Although they don't count as albums, I had to give them mention:

Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps
Pink Floyd - Live from Pompeii
                            Cream - Farewell Concert

You and I have very similar musical tastes, EJ. I could put those albums on my list as well, except I'd probably switch the Led Zeplin one for The White Album or Sgt. Peppers. I might also substitute another BDB album, although The Hour of Bewilderbeast is definitely one of my favorites. I'd probably pick the About a Boy soundtrack instead as one that I can listen to straight through over and over.

                              Other albums:

                              In Rainbows - Radiohead
A Ghost is Born - Wilco
                              Jurassic 5 - Quality Control
