The lyrics make me think of my almost 11 year old.

Oh man, that song is cheesy, but I suppose I could see how a parent might find the nostalgia in it.

The first girl I dated when I got home from my mission played this for me since she knew I played a lot of baseball. I thought "what the hell is this?" but she was hot and I liked making out with her so I pretended to like it.

Yes, when you have kids and they start playing ball, the song will mean much more to you than it does now. It really reminds me of both my sons, especially the older of the two when he was 10.

I am glad that you like this 6-note classic that is now ubiquitous at any and every sporting event across the country...and also in other parts of the world.

It was written by USC band member Tommy Walker back in the 40s while a student at SC.

PS I don't know about mexican hat dance, but Herb Alpert (sin su Tijuana Brass) went to SC and was in the band, as well. He went on to do a lot of cool stuff, including co-writing the lyrics for Sam Cooke's ditty..."Wonderful World."
