Where can I find it?Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostLes Miserables (2019). Not the musical. Was nominated for Best Foreign Film at last Oscars. A powerful film that is strikingly applicable to this American moment. If you're one who doesn't like to read subtitles I have to say that I forgot I was reading less than 5 minutes into the film. Highly recommend.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Hamilton, available on Disney Plus, is outstanding. It's a live performance (actually, stitched together from three live performances, including one without an audience to facilitate close-ups) with the original cast from 2016. We saw such a performance a few months before this was filmed and it was great, but in many ways, this is better. Subtitles help, and seeing facial expressions adds a lot. Certainly worth a month's subscription...

I watched it with my kids last night. My 14-yr-old daughter was the most excited to watch because of its popularity. She left the room after about an hour (today she says she liked it but it was "a little long"). I dozed off about 90 minutes in and turned it off at around the two-hour mark--and unlike EJ, I never fall asleep during movies. So Hamilton did not meet the hype according to our household. I've been thinking about it today, wondering why it got so much acclaim.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostHamilton, available on Disney Plus, is outstanding. This is consistent with my family. I wonder how much seeing it in person first makes a difference.Originally posted by Lost Student View PostI watched it with my kids last night. Watched Hamilton (for the first time) today too and have to say that I think I'm also in the overhyped camp. Maybe it is better live--or maybe it just that I have a low tolerance for cheese lately--but I was underwhelmed. It had some great moments, but I also found myself getting bored at times. Or maybe it was because Lin Manuel Miranda has become so ubiquitous since the play came out that I had a hard time buying into him as Hamilton.

Watched Hamilton-- for whatever reason I had never seen it. I have always meant to go watch it but it never happened. OMG wow. Blew away and exceeded whatever expectations I had. Lots of Easter eggs in the lyrics for those who know anything about 90s hip hop... I can't imagine the amount of writing Lin Manuel Miranda had to do draft after draft for that whole play. I'm guessing hundreds of pages of scrawled lyrics. Did he have any inkling that all that effort would pay off at all? Quite amazing.Last edited by Commando; 07-05-2020, 05:47 AM."I'm anti, can't no government handle a commando / Your man don't want it, Trump's a bitch! I'll make his whole brand go under,"
